[Appliances] Refrigerator efficiencyMy refrigerator was new I think in the year 2000. My question is is that still energy efficient by today's standards or are the newer energy star rated models even more energy efficient.
The gasket is needing replacement and it has a horrible condensation problem at the bottom of the freezer door (top freezer/bottom fridge) and I'm thinking with the cost of having Sears come out to replace the gasket and fix the condensation problem, it would be more penny wise to replace.
Any new appliance I would buy would be energy star rated and not made by GE. I would shoot for whirlpool, Maytag, or another Kenmore.
FYI: It's our fridge, not the landlord's. |

[Appliances] Re: Refrigerator efficiencyYou do realize that the gasket is probably the cause of the condensation problem, right?
If it only needs a gasket, run it until it dies. |

Re: [Appliances] Refrigerator efficiencyThis is more FYI
Whirlpool, Maytag, Kitchen Aid or Kenmore are all Whirlpool products using the same components just different cosmetics.
And yes they will be more efficient. |

I would definitely replace the gasket, which is something you can easily do yourself. To answer your question about energy efficiency of today's refrigerators versus old refrigerators, here you go: » michaelbluejay.com/elect ··· ors.html |

Re: Refrigerator efficiencyI tried replacing it myself, I couldn't get it right. And sears tried sending me a gasket that looked used so I sent it back. |

You are correct.
The bulk of Kenmore's are Whirlpool. |

I often use RepairClinic.com when looking to fix an appliance. They have parts for most anything, and often have instructional help as well. |
