Merge MP4 Video files into ONE MP4 file

Is there a simple CLI command to take say file1.mp4 file2.mp4 and make mergedfile.mp4

I've seen ffmpeg and concat demux, unfortunately that is only available for ffmpeg 1.1+ Kubuntu 12.04 only offers 0.864 in my release and is/has removed it from later versions...

Example:

$ ffmpeg -f concat -i inputs.txt -c copy bassey_merged.mp4
ffmpeg version 0.8.6-4:0.8.6-0ubuntu0.12.04.1, Copyright (c) 2000-2013 the Libav developers
  built on Apr  2 2013 17:00:59 with gcc 4.6.3
*** THIS PROGRAM IS DEPRECATED ***
This program is only provided for compatibility and will be removed in a future release. Please use avconv instead.
Unknown input format: 'concat'

So is there some simple way? ?

I don't want to change any resolutions or audio formats... just merge it all into one big file...

Thanks!

Ubuntu has always been bad about FFmpeg. I wouldn't rely on the version they bundle; just build your own.

Anyway, when they drop "ffmpeg", you can use "avconv" instead.

I have software which relies on ffmpeg for mp3 extraction... it won't use avconv

Additionally compiling and me do not get along, at all.

Back to the original request....

Any one with a solution to merge the files???? Thanks....

This one-liner works for me in concatenating a bunch of files shot with a smartphone:

mencoder -oac pcm -ovc copy -o merged_file.mp4 `ls *.mp4`

Audio will be PCM, mind you.

It's not a cli option, but ...
... Avidemux will append files, pretty easily.

Just sayin' is all.

Thanks, but this has to be CLI to be used via BASH script in the background via cron jobs.

Thanks, but I don't want to modify the files in any way... just merge them together into one big file preserving all formats.

files='*.mp4'; for i in $files; do MP4Box -cat $i joined.mp4; done

Tried that:

[code]

$ files='*.mp4'; for i in $files; do MP4Box -cat $i joined.mp4; done
The program 'MP4Box' is currently not installed. You can install it by typing:
sudo apt-get install gpac

What is this gpac? I don't install programs willy nilly.. severe vetting must occur.
