Keep 35/35 for $40.00?It's time to re-bundle. I currently have 35/35 for $40.00 as part of a quad play with Ultimate HD + Phone + Wireless. The $10 Quantum upgrade is to 50/25 which is kind of an upgrade and a downgrade. I am going to flush that I think. I actually need more upstream for a project I am working on.
The 35/35 at $40 seems like a good deal to me.
The next step up is 75/35 which doesn't get me any more up and is $99.99 or maybe $69.99 on re-bundle? Doesn't seem like a great deal to me. I'd really like 150/65 but don't want to pay $199.99 and wouldn't use that much of it most of time.
Anyone have any thoughts? My impression is 35/35, which is no longer available, is a good deal at $40 but I wonder about what kind of bundle incentives might be available for existing customers that could change my mind. |

Personally, I'd stick with 35/35. Unless you are doing a lot of concurrent sessions with multiple devices, you probably aren't coming close to capping at 35 down.
Call 'em up and see what they can offer you. You can always just say no and stick with what you've got. |

I'm at 35/35, and have no intention of ever paying more for 50/25. If they want to upgrade me to 75/35 for $10, that's a different story. |

Yes is would be really nice if the $10 upgrade to 30/30 wasn't 50/25 but 75/35. I would pay $10 for that too. |

I have the $10 upgrade to Quantum at 50/25 (I assume) but it just benchmarked at 56/31 to a good host. It often benchmarks at 50/25 which is 30% lower on the upstream. Can't decide what to do about the $10 "upgrade" going forward. I keep flip-flopping on it.

Actually one of the things I liked about Comcast in California (I'm in NJ now) is they have a burst mode gimmick and it works pretty well for small to moderate downloads. The burst rate factor os pretty big like 2X (don't remember exactly) but it doesn't last for that long. Comcast also has fluff.
A burst feature on FIOS would be nice. Maybe 2X your download speed for the first 250 MB in a 15 minute period or something like that.
Would anyone else like that? |

A burst speed gimmick for a few seconds and will only lasts when there is nobody else in the node. It's not the same as FIOS fluff. FIOS's speed+fluff is always there, whatever you see is what you get no gimmickry.  |

I'd give them a call and explain how the 50/25 package isn't really worth the $10 when it decreases upload. I got the 35/35 -> 75/35 quantum upgrade for only $10 (instead of $20) when I called in and talked with a rep; seems like a good deal to me. Rebundled and good for two years. |

I went from 35/35 to 75/35 with only paying $10 more, but then again I'm on business class. I *WISH* they would lower the price of 150/65 for business, that would be so nice. It's outrageous right now  |

tildeleb, I was facing the same decision as you about 1-2 years ago. When I upgraded from 35/35 I found that they didn't touch the upload, but they increased the download. So I now have 50/35 which benchmarks as 58/38. I can't guarantee that would happen to you but I saw on these boards that it was happening so I took the chance and I got it. One of the best broadband decisions I have made. |

Not on a business connection. Our other choices are bonding some T-1s (at $300/mo each) or enterprise fiber which is expensive in an off-net building.
You couldn't bond 75 Mbps worth of T-1s together in a practical manner, and 75 Mbps on enterprise fiber would cost thousands.
Pound for pound, 75 Mbps on Business FIOS for pennies over $100 is dirt cheap. |
