Motorola SB5102

Just wanted to share my thoughts with my current situation. About a month ago started noticing speed issues, contacted Shaw Alex, he began looking into it. Noticed a few issues so sent a tech. Tech fixed signal issues, still having speed issues. Sent a message back saying still having issues, he replied with needing to do a modem swap. No big deal, schedule a call or I can go pick it up. That was the last time he responded to me which was Oct 30th. Messaged Shaw Sean to see if he could finish this up for me. He responded asking if I still needed assistance, I responded saying yes. That was early November. Last night my modem finally failed, leaving with me a useless Shaw Biz 25Mb internet package. Now trying to get ahold of regular tech support to either get a new modem, upgrade to the 50Mb package. Called in and since I'm a grandfathered package it will cost $72 extra a month to go from 25Mb biz to the 50Mb biz package.

I've always had great support with Sean and Alex, here I am with complete disconnects and constant issues with no end in sight. If there's another Shaw Rep that could help, greatly appreciate it.

your using docsis 2 for a business when docsis 3 has been available for years, why cant you get a dpc3825 and stay on 25. docsis 1.1 and 2 modems create imbalances in a multi channel docsis system, some channels on my node r up to %60 while others sit as low as %20. what happened to ur telus fiber dude

Only needed 25Mb, they won't give a D3 modem for anything higher than 50Mb at that time. Fiber is at work, amigo. This is for my side stuff.

Please refrain from posting on my topics, I really would rather you left them alone and left for useful posts.

Much appreciated!

I can look for another SB51xx modem, but I don't think I have any more...

At least regular business support usually answer their phones pretty quick, and next day service calls (sometimes even same day - that is a nice perk eh)

That is true, however since I wanna change my plan I would need to speak to someone about why the extra $72/month to go from 25Mb to 50Mb.

Cable TV is no longer included, would be my first guess, they would add that in, and than the normal speed increase

Grandfathed rate? Normal 25 is $83 right now?

That would definitely be it then. Had no idea they didn't included basic cable on the biz packages anymore...wow

Hi Rusty,

I'm an Engineer and not a rep, so I can't help you directly. If you pop over to community.shaw.ca and post a thread I'll poke a moderator to give you some attention. Or just use the @ symbol to include @corbin and @[shaw]moderator.

If you have Biz 25, then a D3.0 is definitely an option if your modem has failed.

Yes, modem was swapped, plan upgraded for the additional $22.00 it was suppose to be, not the ~70 I was told.

Speeds are back to optimal and no drops in evening.

Thanks for the help, was greatly appreciated.

You got to keep the grandfathered cable then?

Yes, when they first removed basic cable there was no code. However, there is a code which can be applied to an account so their TV package is grandfathered in and only the internet get's upgraded.

I will be sure to keep an eye on my bill, just incase
