[FP-Ops] Foldy 2 work

OK, I have scheduled some work on the foldy blades during my "stay-cation" starting on Thanksgiving day... Some of it is already done.

Blade 1: Now in a new 4U case (the old one was too deep), cleaned.
Blade 2: Scheduled for cleaning and a new 4U case (too cramped in the 2U)
Blade 3: Scheduled for cleaning, may go in the 2U case if I can get a modular power supply with short/skinny enough cables...
Blade 4: Scheduled for cleaning
Blade 5: Scheduled for cleaning
Blade 6: Scheduled for cleaning

In addition to cleaning and re-casing blades, I'm trying to get my mitts on a 24U cabinet (that was once mine...) and dedicating it to FP. If I can get my hands on it, all 6 foldy blades, the UPS, and a switch will go into that dedicated cabinet, and I'll have someone make up some artwork for the outside of the cabinet.

As far as the inside, I'm thinking of putting a laminated page of how to contact the group should it be necessary.

I will also be attempting to convert the blades over to v7. parkut See Profile has provided some code to rework the log files and create unitinfo.txt . I think the quad cores will be fine with it, but I'm not sure about blade 6 (the Xeon).

OK, F2B3 is now in a 4U case with much better airflow (and a bigger power supply that actually has a fan in it...). Its' motherboard is too long to fit in the 2U case as I had intended. Inventory can be updated to reflect the new case.

Blade 2 will stay in its' 2U case for now, and I have 1 4U case left, which will probably hold blade 6 if we go ahead with replacing it.

I'm going to start tearing the cabinet apart and rebuilding it on Thanksgiving (I have to take the building management server down, and they'll be no one here to need it). For now, F2B3 is sitting in the living room humming away next to my record cabinet...

All 6 blades are now running v7. We'll see in a little bit if they are reporting properly.

DSLR hosed the code on the gather script, so I'm going through it trying to find and fix the problems... sigh

EDIT: I fixed it. All 6 blades are reporting to both monitors. I'll fix the CPU declarations later, as they're all still the same.

All 6 blades are now reporting (and saving their log files...) properly.
I think it's weird that HFM reports them as uniprocessor, but they are using all cores...

Not the greatest picture, but everything is back up and running. there is room for F2b6 to be replaced with a 4U case if we go ahead with replacing it.

Thats a sweet looking rack there. But, if you don't mind my asking, how do you keep it cool?

The room its' in has a 12kBTU portable air conditioner in it, which keeps the room at 72 degrees year-round.

Got my glass kicked today. F2B6 (which I REALLY hope gets replaced soon...) started beeping (redundant power supply came loose), and when I went to slot it back in, I knocked the fiber to my office machine loose from the cable management bar. When I shut the door, the fiber lost that fight...

On the plus side, I ordered a new PDU for the foldy machines... it'll be here on Wednesday.

Damn it!
F2B3 has a failing hard drive. I'm doing an fsck now, but I'm not optimistic that it can be saved. I'm going to look around and see if I have a SATA hard drive around here...

Nope. It's still throwing media errors. I have a 40GB SATA drive that is still new in the bag that I'll install. I'm downloading the latest CentOS 6.5 ISO (will be done in an hour) and will get the drive swapped and CentOS reloaded. (I don't have a backup since I moved to F@H v7, so I'll just install from scratch... less headache for me that way... )

There are some good deals on used drives here on DSLR

Please request reimbursement for your expense..

i would be interested in your experience with CentOS v 6.5, my one attempt took a lot more effort than the 5.x version, so I have avoided it.

Since I already have a brand new drive, I'll just use it. I have another machine (of my own) running 6.5, and haven't had any issues with it...

F2B3 has a new hard drive, a new OS, and is crunching away again. *blows on finger*

The only change I had to make with 6.5 was go into /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts and edit ifcfg-eth0 and change onboot=no to onboot=yes . For some reason it didn't set eth0 to start on boot (I think because this machine has more than one "NIC" in it (1394...), but I'm not sure)
