Switching from Fios to Comcast

Wondering if anyone can answer my question. I would like to switch from Verizon to Comcast. My contract with Verizon expires on 12/11/13, but I was looking to have Comcast turned back on 12/7/13. Will cause an early termination? I don't plan on calling Verizon and returning my boxes until 12/12/13 so I will be paying for the service until then, just not using it. Does anyone know?

If you don't cancel anything with VZ prior to the date your contract ends, there shouldn't be an ETF. You really don't want to cancel it until you are sure you are satisfied with the Comcast installation and product, either...

Awesome, thank you!!! I really want to take advantage of their promotion right now, but it ends 11/24. I can schedule the install on 12/7, but my contract with Verizon is up on 12/11. I'll just call on 12/12 to cancel then.

Will you be porting a phone number from Verizon to Comcast? Porting a number triggers a cancellation of at least the phone service. If your contract requires you to maintain a triply play package, it will be seen as a cancellation on the date the number is moved.

If that is the case, you may be able to have comcast delay the port or call in to start it on the 11th. Make sure to ask if there would be any extra fees involved though.

I was going to port it, but figured if I did then it would trigger a cancellation. I don't need to keep the same #. Just want the home phone for emergencies. I don't have the greatest reception on my cell.

We have the triple play with Fios and a multi-room DVR. It is $128 a month, but will go up to $170/175 when the contract is up.

We'll have the triple play with a DVR and it will be about $90/100 with Comcast.

If you just need a landline for emergencies, you are better off served by VOIP and go with the 2-play. That way you can keep your # or port it to GV. Obihai is a great adapter, and it supports a number of prepaid VOIP. I happily use Anveo, but there are many to choose from.

Your taxes for your phone will be more than doing prepaid, even if you use it a good deal.

That way in the future you can cancel or flip flop on a whim and not have to worry about porting or disruption in phone service. You simply hook your ATA (phone adapter) into the latest HSI connection and you are good.

Let us know how Comcast works out...

Why not renew contract or call them for a deal

The termination fee is prorated to $20 a month. If your port out would cause an ETF you would only pay $20.

Charlie definately check the fine print, I see you are in the NYC area and keep in mind Comcast charges $10 a stb and has a $10 HD tech fee if you subscribe to a low package. Im in Jersey and even with a new contract with Comcast I would be pay $20 more month for the same type of package as a recurring FIOS customer and thats only the first month. Second month I would pay $40 more a month, Comcast IMHO just does not compete with FIOS/Cablevision prices.

I left FIOS two months back and went back to comcast after nearly three years with FIOS. I am saving almost $80. I was paying 230 for two TV's and FIOS quantum. The HDDVR with fios was 19.95 and the std STB which now is gone was 9.95. I live in Mass burbs. Why comcast? They are the only ones available. Dish/Directv not possible because of trees.
