[TV] Translucent "Pause" bars

Does anyone remember the "good old days", when PVR's used TRANSLUCENT bars at the bottom of the screen when the Pause button was pressed?

I'm one of those people who enjoys reading the "fine print" on some ads, or trying to read some of Chuck Lorre's "pearls of wisdom" at the end of some of his programs. It is so annoying to NOT be able to read the last few lines on the screen (during a PAUSE operation) because I cannot see through the information bar.

Moving the bar to the top of the screen is no better, because then, a different part of the screen is obscured.

Does anyone know why the PVR boxes no longer use (or provide the option to use) the see-through bars?

Is this something that is the manufacturer's fault, or does Cogeco have some say in the way this works?

Re: [TV] Translucent "Pause" bars

On Bell's Fibe TV PVR (Motorola VIP2262) the pause bar at the bottom is semi-translucent and disappears after a few seconds leaving the entire image visible. So obviously this is a design choice that could be fixed if there is enough demand for it.

I think this is a far better topic to talk about.
