How YouTube Works

This video points out that if their equipment senses a fast connection, it will upgrade to higher quality feed. Likewise, if slower connection is sensed, their equipment will use a lower quality feed.

Hence, those on Exede-12, unless users manually set video parameter, will consume their quota quickly if enough vids are watched in HD.

You are correct, your best bet for watching videos (in moderation) on Exede is to manually change the settings to low quality or standard definition. During the LNFZ of course, your usage is not counted, so that would be the ideal time to watch HD videos.

Normally, I use a downloader program to store them on hard disk, and watch them later.

I'm sure there is more than one program out there, but I use "Download YouTube Videos as MP4" program, and click to download as 360P MP4 format, unless I'm in LNFZ time, then 720p or higher. Most videos can be downloaded with this program.

Using 360p format, one can download quite a few per month, if several minutes each.
