I moved into a new house which has a 2-zone system. It is controlled by a honeywell HZ311 TrueZONE controller. The thermostats (2) are basic thermostats with no ability to control other zone. The HZ311 controller handles everything.
A Couple of Questions: -As far as I can tell, the system runs at full speed Cool or Heat, but only directs to 1 or 2 zones at a time. I don't think this is a multi-stage system. How can I verify? On the controller the DS/BK (variable-speed fan) is not connected. -The system has a "DATS" sensor. I believe this senses if the temp gets too high/low and powers down the heat/cool until in acceptable ranges once again. Would this normally trigger in a 1 zone only running configuration? (I.E. system producing too cold air than it should because it's not cooling the entire house). -This is a 3 zone controller, but only 2 are being used. If I wanted to split the Master Bed into it's own zone (has its own air return, and easy to split add separate zone in ducting, and thermostat). Am I just asking for trouble with cooling just a smaller space? House is about 2400 sq ft, 1200 on each floor (Zones 1 and 2). MBed, MBath, Mbed Closets is about 500 sq ft total, part of existing zone 2. I'm not sure what happens if it directs full blower power to a smaller space. It does have a bypass duct for when only 1 zone is in use.
Your stats report back to the controller which makes the decisions and adjusts the outputs / zone dampers. »www.alpinehomeair.com/vi ··· rochures will link to documentation.
