Just bought one of these at Staples.ca during their Black Friday sale for $99. Is the consensus mostly in favour of Merlin? What extra features does it offer? My temptation is to stick with the stock Asus firmware as I've had lots of bad luck lately with routers.

Most Asus routers have 3rd party firmware availability out of the box and they provide a utility to flash said firmwares with. Just make sure you flash the right one. The flashing utility will also filter out most incompatible firmware, so that's an extra layer of security for you, if you need it

Good thing to know, if I actually ever receive it. Their site said it was "out for delivery" yesterday, nothing came. Contacted Staples, they said they put a trace on it and "call me back shortly", that was yesterday around 6.
