plan on switching over to Start from rogers.
Pretty fed up witht the Rogers cap as I'm always going over. I have a great deal with rogers retention for internet but ugh the cap... Anyways I'm currently in markham/Unionville and wondering if I will get advertised speeds. I don't doubt it but just covering the bases. I saw the other thread with people posting speeds and they were all at advertised speeds if not better. But I know it sometimes varies by location.
I'm planning to switch to the 25/2 unlimited plan if that helps.
As well if I were to purchase the modem elsewhere would that incur any fees from Start?
And last question, (sorry I'm not very techy can some explain the difference between FTTN and cable? Please explain it like I'm 5 lol I saw the other thread but didn't understand much.
FTTN (Fiber To The Neighborhood) is over Bell network. It's not cable, different technology, it's over the cooper phone wires in your house (and over optical fiber to the neighborhood box) , and the modem is different than the cable one. You can get VDSL (up to 50/10 currently, depending of location) or legacy ADSL (up to 15/1).
Cable is over Rogers network on your area, if you've got good speeds before you will most likely get the same on Start (you just will pay less). If you own a DOCSIS3 modem, you can use it, if not buy one from Start. (If you own an old modem which is not DOCSIS3 it will not be accepted for new installs).
