speed increasesAs of 1 hour ago (time of this post) my internet in starkville was boosted from 35/2 to 50/5. Not a word from metrocast, but I can deal with it. *edit* crap, this was meant to be a reply to the other thread. »www.speedtest.net/result ··· 2201.png |

That's awesome! Did you power cycle your modem? |

Imagine that! Cspire starts to build fiber and your speeds go up. go figure. |

Yeah, I wonder if these speeds are going to roll out to anywhere else or if they're going to be a "special rate" for people who just happen to live in an area where Metrocast isn't given a monopoly. |

Well I can tell you they are here in northern CT! Just rebooted my router and modem and I am seeing 51-53 down and up to 4.5 up. Upload varies though.... » www.speedtest.net/my-res ··· 74197172 |

I checked with another metrocast user that lives 5 miles away (still outside starkville) and he has the speed increases too. I have posted in r/mississippi on reddit and it appears those inside city limits are still at 35/2, I can only imagine they are doing it node at a time. Maybe in the next week more people inside city limits will see faster speeds. |

Just rebooted my modem and I'm seeing the 50 down, but like ptrowski said, the upstream is all over the place, and not really showing anything faster than the 2Mbps I've had. Edit: Just tested again and got 5.00Mbps upload! |

Just rebooted my modem and was pleasantly surprised with this: |
|
|
Jcantara, networknh. were you two both at 35/2 before today? Can we assume this is the year upgrade? I know, assumptions. ;P |
|
|
Yes I was, and I'm pretty sure it is. They did this a few years back (silently upgraded everyone before January 1st) - more than likely to gauge NODE saturation on the network before fully implementing the upgrade by forcefully rebooting everyone's modem. |
|
|
This is quite certainly a nice boost. I live practically off in the country(but near starkville). I would have no hope of getting cspires fiber. Without metrocast I would be stuck on 3mbps down, 512kbps up dsl from AT&T.
I upload a good many youtube videos so this boost in upload speed is certainly welcome. |

Most definitely! I couldn't agree more! |

Echoing what NetworkNH said: Previously on the 35/2 plan.
As for speeds, I'm always glad when they upgrade and never want to seem dismissive of them, but at the same time 5Mbps upload is still pretty low when talking about competitors in the area. And by "in the area" I mean Comcast is literally serving houses a few streets down from mine.
I still think they need to offer a tier above this one. Bandwidth is the only thing I'm paying a monthly bill for anymore, in terms of entertainment services. I cancelled TV years ago, and that's $60+ a month that Metrocast used to get from me but doesn't anymore. I'd absolutely consider giving them $100/month for a faster package, but they don't seem to want to offer one. |

I've never received an email but I regularly go over their 350gb fair usage policy. I have directv atm but will eventually get around to cancelling. Metrocast could steal a large portion of money from me if they would offer a MUCH faster tier such at 150/30(or 40) with a MUCH higher cap(think a TB or two). I daresay I'd drop $120-140 a month on that. I know most wouldn't. But the demand is there. |
|
|
Yep, same here. I go over the cap every few months, and they've never contacted me about it. They seem to be pretty reasonable about it. I would absolutely spend $130/month on a 150/30 plan. I'd even drop $100 on a 100/20 plan (This is about what Comcast offers as their highest tier). However, it's clear they are developing some sort of capacity issue. The speeds may have been bumped to 50/5 today, and we were getting those speeds during working hours, but as soon as the evening hit and people got home from work and started using their connections, this happened: |

Looks like they have not gotten to Waterford CT yet. If anything they are a little slower tonight. |

Those issues jcantara seem to be because of system wide problems. The test scores correspond with specific network issues here. » www.internetpulse.net/I don't believe it has much to do with metrocast. Just who their provider is. |

Is it only the Ultra Tier that is going to get a speed increase? |

Are the speed increases just for the ultra package??? |

We won't know until they actually announce the upgrades, which should probably be sometime soon. |

What modem is everyone using? Would be good to list those as well. I am using a SB6120. |
|
|
Good call ptrowski. I'm using a brand new "White" Motorola SB6141 with 5 Channel DS (Downstream) and 2 Channel US (Upstream) bonding. |
|
|
to ptrowski
Same here. Seems like it supports 4 channels down and 4 up, but I'm only seeing bonding on the downstream. Upstream is just a single channel. According to the spec sheet, the 6120 maxes out at 171Mbps, which means that if I remain in Metrocast territory, it will probably last a very long time. |

Black SBG6580, 8 down and 3 up since I activated with metrocast. |

Wow! UPS just delivered my new Netgear R6300v2 router which I just hooked up to my SB6141. I did not know Metrocast had increased the speeds. I was pretty surprised. My first speedtest was: Looks like Mayrland is up and running as well! I've got 6 bonded down and 2 bonded up..... |
