What's the recommended procedure for migrating from rental Sagemcoms to SmartRG?

Haven't been on the forums for a while, but I'm still pissed off with Sagemcom..

Can you tell us what the advantages are?

Thanks

Awesome! I just submitted a ticket via My World.

Do I really need a tech to come by if I'm going from DSL 15/1 to 25/10?

Thanks!

The primary benefit is that sync no surf problems appear to be fully solved with the SmartRG.

If your service works well with the Sagemcom, there's no reason to look to replace it. The Sagemcoms, at this point, are actually working well.

- The SmartRG works at full speed in bridged mode, while the Sagemcom maxes out around 33 Mbps
- The SmartRG does not suffer from the sync-no-surf issue, while the Sagemcom still does
- The SmartRG works on both 7330s and stingers (like the Sagemcom does)
- The SmartRG is reported to generally produce better line stats
- The SmartRG is reported to generally be more reliable
- The SmartRG does not disable features or hide line stats like the Sagemcom
- The SmartRG is much smaller than the Sagemcom
- The SmartRG is sourced by TekSavvy (to the extent they can request firmware tweaks) while the Sagemcom is sourced by Bell (and only Bell can initiate firmware fixes, hence why it's still broken to this day).

The SmartRG is just generally considered to be a much better and more reliable modem... so much so that even Bell is rumoured to be planning to start using it.

What about bridge mode?
Sagemcom wireless sucks...

Never mind, Guspaz answered it

Ah yes. The bridged mode speed.

I agree that in the beginning the Sagemcom had many problems. Today though, with the latest firmware revisions, it's not a bad modem. If you need bridge mode faster than 25 meg and for sync no surf, interleave fixes it in most cases but in some cases it does not.

That being said. I'm happy to now move on and offer the SmartRG. The only down side appears that it's too configurable hehe. Technically, it's nice to have that feeling that it will just work. The peace of mind of it. Totally agree there.

To add, I think there is fatigue of various kinds associated with the Sagemcom.. We're all just tired of hearing about it kind of thing.

Anyway. This is a SmartRG thread damnit. Hehe

I wouldn't know, I don't get firmware updates because I had to use the bridge mode hack to get the thing working at 50 megabit :P

Marc, you're lucky that Bell didn't push the FAST2864_v6843A firmware to your users. You'd be cursing like mad.

Worse than sync no surf, the modem actually reboots every few minutes under heavy traffic, and this affects people that weren't affected by SnS before.

They pulled the upgrade from being pushed to more of their own retail users, and those who were affected were asked to get a modem swap, since Bell cannot push a rollback firmware thru their management servers.

If they were your users, you'd have to send them a new modem and then be stuck with those lemons hoping they will be updated at some point in the future.

Oh wow. Yeah. Well. Let's not push that firmware then.

So nice to have an alternative option with the SmartRG.

Out of curiosity, are the ones you'll be selling gonna come with a manual of some sort?

The one I obtained elsewhere came with absolutely no documentation at all.

that's odd; I posted a link for the SmartRG 350N manual but it doesn't appear. I pm'd you the link, HiVolt. TSI's website doesn't indicate which model is used tho.

Yeah I'm aware some generic versions are floating around... but I just wonder if there is maybe even some kind of quickstart manual outlining the very basics like wifi setup.
