Re: [DSL] SmartRG modems are now available.

said by FreakPrism:

So looks like we are stuck with these sagecoms as doubt anyone will buy them on ebay.

People are definitely buying them. The price seems to be a bit low, $60 ish, but they sell. I think somebody in Montreal sells a lot..

The SmartRG modems are not sourced by Bell like the Sagemcom modems were. And we do not manage the ones we sell. The functionality does exist but we are not leveraging that.

Currently you don't plan to and you may never (I don't actually think you would) but you may also be forced to by Bhell - it's a remote possibility but I trust the system that little after all the crap we've seen. Anyway, HiVolt corrected me - first time I've ever seen a TR-069 manual override included in the user controls which is great and makes it a moot point.

They won't be forced by Bell...

If there are firmware updates to be applied in the future the process isnt that hard to upgrade it manually, just like any other router.

In fact, the crtc just issued a decision directing bell to update the firmware to a non branded firmware within 30 days. We're talking to them to see exactly what they plan on dong.

Yeah, I read that... Though I found it funny that they had no problems with bell blocking features...

»crtc.gc.ca/eng/archive/2013/2013-659.htm

The Commission considers inappropriate any presence of Bell branding on modems and firmware used by wholesale end-users and agrees with Bell's approach to rectify the problem. Accordingly, the Commission directs the Bell companies to remove Bell-specific branding from new wholesale end-user modem firmware/hardware within 30 days of the date of this decision.

I'm cancelling the Bell at the moment, Teksavvy is one of my option, I'm wondering what's exact SmartRG model if I go with 25/10 DSL?

SmartRG SR505N.It's the only model which supports Bell network (Stingers and 7330). Don't look for it on retail or eBay you will not find it, get it from your ISP. TekSavvy and Start have them.

I can attest that the Smart RG doesn't suffer the sync-no-surf problems of the Sagemcom. I suffered 6 months with that POS modem. If I torrented, or even used any application that opened more than 10 connections, the modem freaked out. Sometimes, it would sync-no-surf immediately after a reboot. 3 weeks now after kicking that garbage modem to the curb, and not a single problem

Thank you. But unfortunately, I tried Teksavvy's website today, my post code is M2J3C6, seems Teksavvy didn't cover this area.
Question to TSI folks, can I just buy one modem from your company?
