Link2SDAnyone use this?
I saw it mentioned here and figure maybe it'll get my nexus one to not be so full anymore (I have a 32GB SD card but system storage is really low) |

I'm using it with old v2.2 Android. I could not imagine to run my phone without it now |

Well crap looks like I'm going to have to work on this some more I figured I could repartition the SD card via USB to the phone well now the Phone can't read the SD card at all I followed » forum.xda-developers.com ··· =2412319but used the phone instead of a card reader well I have a backup on a USB flash drive so I'll try with my card reader at home. |

Initially due to some bugs (in Android v2.2 and perhaps with partition software used) I had some troubles too. Finally I made it work with followed steps (8GiB SD card): 1. Backup all data from SD to PC 2. Partition SD card to have 2 partitions (common data and partition for Link2SD) 3. Restore data from PC to data partition of SD card. The special steps (in my case at least) required at point 2 are: 2.1 Install MiniTool Partition Wizard (MPW) 2.2 Make 2 partitions. Delete old partition and create new 1st partition (FAT32) 5650MiB (5.21GiB). Then, second partition (ext2), taking the rest. Both should be Primary. At this point phone (Android 2.2) reports:Damaged SD card. SD card damaged. You may have to reformat it. 2.3 Insert SD card into a phone with Android 4.1.2 (e.g. Samsung Galaxy Note 2) and it will silently fix it. Now SD card is recognized, but it shows only 1st partition. 2.4 Run MPW again. It will show that SD has only one partition with size 5.52GB and the rest (around 1.88GB) is un-allocated. Manually re-create second partition again 2.5 At this point SD is recognizable by my phone (Android 2.2) and it has 2 partitions
I know that may sound weird. But that's exactly how I made it. And Link2SD is working well since then... |

Root permission is required to link (put apps into SD card and use them in phone as usual). |

OK I think I'm getting what I need to do but I have my google authenticator and blizzard authenticator on my phone
so whats the best way to backup my stuff? |
|

Well the recovery image mentioned on » androidandme.com/2010/01 ··· xus-one/isn't available for download anymore and the Cyanogen's N1 Addon needs a login I worked out how to backup my authenticators I'm not to worried about my other apps but still a bit unsure do I really need the recovery image? or could I just use ADB? |

To backup phone people usually recommend Titanium Backup, but it requires root already... I don't use it. Instead I use backup that comes with ClockworkMod Recovery. I've got it after I rooted the phone. May be someone else will come up here with suggestion how to backup your data without root requirement. Of course the data on phone SD can be easily copied (and restored) in to your PC at any time. ADB is a tool to access your phone from PC. Recovery is a partition installed on your phone that supports recovery functions (if needed). |

I figure I'll just pull the SD card and put in another one while doing the rooting
other than those 2 apps which I have sorted I'm not worried about the other stuff, I can just redownload it after link2sd is up
but I can't seem to get "Cyanogen's N1 Addon" seems its a rom I need, and I want to have all the files in place before I do it. |

BTW with link2sd does it store the moved apps on the ext part or is that just used for holding the symbolic links? Currently I split the sd card 50/50 (and its a 32gb one) so ether way I think once I get root I'll be good. |

Link2SD moves apps to SD and puts links to them in phone memory. Thus you'll get plenty of free memory after that...
I set up 2GiB partition for that purpose in my 8GiB SD card. But I think 1GiB partition would be enough too. I don't think you need 16GiB for that partition. |

ok so I guess the ext part can be 2-4gb I guess as the "addon" download still eludes me I could flash with this right? » wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/P ··· ion_InfoI can't find a changelog or such so should I use the signed or the unsigned? |

Sorry, but I can't help you with rooting your phone. Each type of phone requires different approaches... |

well I backed up my authenticators and moved them to my Nexus 7 for now
Well the authenticators were easy just had to click a link in the google security page (and I backed up the QRcode this time
the blizz one just had to note the serial and restore code
hopefully I can sort out rooting this thing as the out of space thing has gone on long enough |

I used it before and it does the job. Just make sure your SD card is partitioned properly and to backup files to PC as partitioning will delete EVERYTHING. Now I use something much more suited to my Wildfire S and its crappy 150MB internal storage. It's called Cronmod Int2Ext4. Set all flash readaheads to Linux default of 4KB(damn you Android for once again deviating from mainline Linux defaults that actually worked better!) and SD card to 128KB. Fast even with a swap partition. Of course, I use ZRAM to help make the most use of my physical RAM and reduce swap read/write sizes. Phone has a ton of apps with no slowdown and still a great daily driver(thanks to the expanded internal memory afforded by Cronmod and numerous speed tweaks that sent my quadrant score over 1k(no hack or cheating)), with a Nexus 7 tablet on the side for my power gaming.
Oh yes, this is with a standard class 4 SD Card. Wanted to see what I could get out of that old SD Card I already had before plunking down on a Class 10 which I was going to do. Turns out there was no need. No I/O lags after tweaking. You might do some I/O tweaks if you links lots of apps to SD, but you should be fine if it's not too many or if you have a class 10 SD card. |

I'm happy I'm no longer hitting the out of space errors also I was able to kill off twitter and facebook (extra woot)
now is there an ad free version of link to SD? I'd like to get rid of the ads. |

Glad to hear that Regarding to new ads: 1. I'm still using v2.4.4, which doesn't have any ads. You may find that .apk on the Internet. 2. You may try to remove ads with AdFree app. |

You may find Donate link here. |

Did some searching and it seems that its an issue with the dev's country of origin and the play store
but he plans to make a paid version available in the future I've suggested a work around but kinda doubt it'll happen
I do like to support apps that I link and don't really like just purging ad's. |

Well on to talking about the app
after reading the FAQ on the dev's page I've linked all of the apps that will link, and integrated any that will
I'm not sure if I've gotten all my apps yet but I like this app. |

Quick question
I notice on my Nexus one under link2sd storage info internal is 71% free but system is 12% free
is that normal? any way to free up the system part or should I even worry? |

System partition among other stuff contains applications, that were pre-installed on your phone. You may remove some unnecessary stuff (like you've mentioned - twitter, facebook, etc) from there. They're in /system/app folder. To play safe copy corresponding .apk file to your SD card first and then remove it from /system/app folder. It will free additional space there. Now you may put your apps there too, if you want. That's the beauty of being root on your phone FYI, currently that partition in my phone has 21% free. |
