If people don't want porn, it's easy to Opt-Out (ie OPT In to the basic filtering) as long as it is optional and clear it is happening. |

But that requires parents to be proactive and actually give a damn about what their kids are doing, which makes it a non-starter. |

However those that have to opt out maybe exposed to whatever they object to before they get the choice. and it doesn't need to be just porn, violence, religious dogma, politics, ADs, and other potentially offensive subject matter, "once seen, can't be unseen." Not suggesting massive censorship, due to the graphic nature of the net, and the need of some to offend as many as possible (among other reasons) but a somewhat cautious opt-out. not much different than what google images offers now. YOU can permanently set, YOUR account options, Grandma or a parent of young children might choose differently. |

and they still should be (not that the filters really stop teens and up. But it would guess, even you have had search results that bring up something different/unexpected (not always a bad thing) or totally unrelated to your intended target, all to often portrayed in a violent, graphic way.

I sure hope they extend this to sites that contain bad words, violent pictures or movies, politics and religious sites. I would hate for child to stumble across any of those accidentally greatly harming themselves and those around them.
Hell while we are at it, maybe their DNS servers should just take you straight to a landing page that like AOL's use to be and then you can selectively get only what they want you to get. Unless of course you are smart enough to find the opt-in /opt-out feature page that actually allows you to view content on the web as you so please. |
