[Help] I'm so confused

"For Indoor or Outdoor Use Only" - the warning that is found on most lighted Christmas decorations. I'm confused, where shouldn't I use these decorations?

To be safe you should keep them in the box and display them proudly on the mantle!

It means you have to put the entire string of lights either indoors or outdoors: running it through the door is not covered

Other official location designations include "damp locations" and "wet locations" which in a residential setting primarily means bathrooms (the difference between those two is whether or not the object is within the splash area of the tub or shower). Since Christmas lights are not rated for damp or wet locations they should be kept out of bathrooms to avoid a truly shocking experience. Typically not found in a home you also have "hazardous locations" which generally means those places where a small spark may result in a loud bang. Therefore try not to wrap the Christmas lights around your gunpowder bags either.

I guess they wouldn't want to see my eaves and ice/water coated Christmas lights on a nice day, ehhh?

The safety of Christmas lights depends on there never being more then 2 of the following at/near them at the same time:
1.) electric power turned on
2.) morning dew, rain or sprinkler water, ice, snow
3.) people (or their pets)

There is no problem with them getting wet as long as you remember to turn off the power before handling them.

Ah, thank you, now I understand. If I want to run the lights through the door, I have to look for a set with a warning label that reads "For Indoor and Outdoor Use Only".

Or, you could do like Ick did and just "misplace" the lights, and then you don't have to worry about them at all!!!
