[Parts Check] *coin mining hardware: Tableau tools

Sooo anybody thought of using this for crunching?
»www.digitalintelligence. ··· station/

We have one of these in the office but have never used it before (for anything): »www.tableau.com/index.ph ··· TACC1441

Any idea if we can "port" it to a *coin tool?

Unfortunately Nvidia cards are horrible at mining. a GTX Titan gets about middle 300s in terms of Kh/s. My 7970 gets twice that.

Yeah, we have a lot of Nvidia cards in the office and have seen that they suck massive balls. Over the last day we've moved them all to ATI and we are kicking ass.

Also looks like the TACC1441 is a RAM unit which also sucks ass. Back to quad video cards I guess.

Not officially. In our down time we mine.

With CudaMiner, it helps a lot. My GTX 670 hit around 320Khash/s right now. If you mine some alt coins that are easy, you can do it.

Thanks for bringing up CudaMiner, could help keep my Nvidias busy as well.

The writer has done a great job over the past month or so pushing Nvid's up and up in the hash.

With all the out of stock ATI cards, and people dumping there Nvid's to go to ATI, think there could be something there.

Pick up a few higher end Nvid's on Ebay or Craigslist and mine away!

What is the hashrate of a 770 with the current cudaminer?

Just had two ATI cards show up today.
This is a great resource:
»litecoin.info/Mining_har ··· mparison

We sort via KH/s and find the card that best fits our price range (newest isn't always best when measured up to RoI).

Just remember that what's listed is not representative of the average of that particular make/model of card, but is rather an exact specification based on a sample size of 1. You would need their exact setup of hardware (make/model of card, CPU/mobo, etc.) and software (cgminer version, driver and SDK version, OS, bios[es])to replicate those numbers.

I consider them more ballpark figures, and it always pays to fine-tune your cards. over the past 2.5 weeks, I've brought my hashrate from 535 to 720, and only could have done that with the help of others and familiarity with my exact setup.

I'm crying a little bit inside because I am about to start over when I lift my two cards out of my gaming rig, construct a new one, and start mining on Xubuntu or BAMT. Gotta scrap everything and start fresh.

Why are you starting over?

Correct on those numbers. Through some tweaking we've breathed life into older ATI cards and I'm really surprised some $80 ATI cards are putting out numbers compared to lower-end modern ATI cards for $150+ USD.

What we've found works well for us:
ATI catalyst control center overclock tool (built in)
GPU meter for shits and grins (»addgadgets.com/gpu_meter/)
CGminer real-time (5s delay) stats and tweaking in CGminer

*I need to add we've only been doing this for a week so we aren't experts in mining though we've been doing GPU/CPU hashing for years.
On another, we just cashed out our first litecoin. Pretty cool seeing real USD in hand.

Just remember that it might not be cost-effective to go out searching for older cards. Sure, a 5870 might put out 400 Kh/s, but its TDP (228w) is practically that of a 7970 (250w).

With the fixed cost of electricity, it pays in the long-run to use more powerful cards.

Unless you're in a position in which electricity usage doesn't matter

(think datacenter)
