How to measure workstation DL/UL speed?Happy New Year to all!
I need to measure the speed 2 workstations within my home network download a large file from the Internet, when downloading simultaneously.
I am after how my workstations within the home network share bandwidth. I have some sort of bandwidth control within TP-LINK router but I am not sure it is working properly for minimum (guaranteed) bandwidth. I plan to download a large (1G) file form the Internet and play with the settings, however I need to be able to see the download speed and how it changes.
I have both, Windows and Mac end points, I can set up any of those environments.
Can you recommend tools to measure network DL/UL speed at a workstation level? Online tools won't help. |

I don't see why two online tests started at the same time won't work.
You can use something like wget to download a large file, should be on the Mac, you can probably find a windows version. |

Online tests are usually very brief. I need something to run for a longer time.
What I am actually trying to see is:
- Start one workstation and generate full load/use up all the bandwidth - Bring up the second one and start download as well - The second ws will have a setup with min bandwidth guaranteed @ 70% of my DL link while the first one will have 5% min bandwidth guaranteed - I want to test if for the first one the DL rate is actually going to drop to allow the second one to take over 70% of the bandwidth

...or find a large file to download... the last file I found that fit the bill was Tom Clancy's HAWX demo at ~1GB in size.

said by RH_User :The question is - how do I measure the download speed? File size (kbit) / time to download (sec) = transfer rate (kbit / sec)... adjust your units of measurement accordingly. Regards |
