I haven't seen anything smaller, or cheaper. Though the device itself could save some size by eliminating the mini-usb plug, which wouldn't have much use in today's world.

I have a straight Male-A to micro retractable, but the reel itself is as big as what you linked.

Agreed. I think I have one cable because it came with my printer, but my printer is hooked up via wifi, so it sits in a drawer...

If you have the skills, you can just DIY and solder together a USB A, mini B and micro B. It can be somewhat smaller, but won't look nowhere near as nice as the 'keychain cable'.

Most people, like myself, just use separate mini and micro charger cables.

I decided to purchase the keychain adapter you linked. It is a little thicker than I expected, and rather bulky to use. The mini and micro plugs clip together before storing, so they both have to be out to use either one. And the whole thing is so short, you end up with a rather thick mess of stuff connecting something to a computer.
Still decent for emergency use i guess, but too big to actually carry on my key ring.

The seller is only asking $8 for that and you still want it cheaper? Seriously?

The relevance of which is dubious IMO but up to the individual. While I didn't provide a link when I looked they had a seller on Amazon selling one for $1 and $4.99 S&H which is still less. As well as some other combinations also under the $6.95 link.
