said by nish787:I am addressing the communication issue and thank you for bringing it to my attention. This was not that hard to explain and we should not have left you in a state of confusion over it.
Powered down the router and the modem and also created a new homegroup. Now the speed test are consistently showing between 15-18Mbps on the wireless and 18-20+ on the wired connection. The friend who helped me reconfigure is not sure what exactly has changed.
Thank you to the BHN Tech Expert on this forum for helping me understand and straightening this out. It would have been better if the original tech support could have explained the situation instead of agreeing to a shortcoming and proposing to change out the modem.
