[Rant] Comcast tries to blame my BRAND NEW router

Just bought a brand new Netgear N900 router to replace my 4th gen Apple AirPort Extreme. Today January 6th it's raining out with some snowmelt so moisture is possibly an issue. I'm having horrible connectivity with it being sluggish and at some points being unable to connect. I call comcast and the CSR plays the usual blame customer owned equipment game, it's like they have quotas on CSRs denying it's their problem. But they have no problem admitting fault if it's their equipment, they'll just swap it out and the problem returns because it's obviously a cable plant issue.

I think the problem has to lie in the underground plant because the service on our street is overhead the first three houses and then goes underground (mine is on the first ped on the U/G system). I think they reused the underground lines when they rebuilt the plant in 2002 because you can see where the splice is on the pole but all the overhead wires are new (easiest to replace) and I think the underground hard line has reached end of life or has moisture ingress because it seems to be acting up real bad when it rains.

The signals appear to be fine on the modem. A couple of T3 and T4 errors in the modem logs as well.

The issues I'm having is I can access certain websites but not others. I was not able to access the directv website or Verizon Wireless Website but could on my Verizon Wireless router.

I've experienced ImOn (when they were McLeod USA), Mediacom, Comcast, and Time Warner and I currently have DirecTV. They are much better than broadcast TV.

I have not and will not cut the cord.

If you cable a workstation or notebook directly to the modem can you reproduce the problem? If so, the issue is likely not your router.

I'm having trouble with some websites today. I cannot log into my AT&T account due to time outs, some other sites won't even load at all(such as Lowes' website), Comcast's site barely loads for me and Verizon Wireless' site takes forever to load, but does load.

I also tried Directv's website and it also times out.

My internet even crashed for about 1-3 minutes this morning.

not in the same area, but all these sites load fine for me here.... looks like a regional thing, maybe with the CDN that hosts the sites (not necessarily comcast, though it could be)

I went to Best Buy and exchanged the router (Netgear N900) for a Netgear N600, which was originally recommended by the salesman for a Comcast connection. I originally opted for the N900 but since I got $53 back, I didn't see the point in having the more expensive router if it's going to give me the same lousy performance that the internet connection is giving me.

I do have the Blast 50/10.

Now the router is out of the equation. I replaced the modem earlier last year and I'm not forking over another $99 for a new modem. And I absolutely refuse to rent their equipment as you end up with a gateway or a modem that is beat up.

Going to their office in Springfield (Mass) is just as fun as a trip to the Registry of Motor Vehicles, you wait just as long in line and the have the same queuing system where you take a number.

I'm starting to think it could be an over saturated node or like I said, a moisture issue.

Maybe a node split is in the cards. If any Comcast employees read this, I've heard techs refer to the node I'm on as Node 3 in Springfield, MA.

make sure you have the gigabit N600 the one I originally bought wasn't and gave me problems lol so I went out a few months later and bought the WNDR4000 N750. Which is Gigabit & ect...

Don't think it was you or even your node, seems a number of people had problems today.

please let me know how you can figure out when cable has reached its end of life.....i have 20yo cable in my nodes and i need management to replace it, and all they say is if it sweeps out, then its ok.

NO physical cable issue will stop you from accessing certain sites and not others...same with an "oversaturated" node. always hated that term.....makes no freakin sense

Have you logged in to your cable modem yet to see if its logging any errors?
