[VOD] How often are On Demand selections updated?

Or does it vary by network? For example, yesterday's episode of Revenge (ABC) is already available On Demand, but last week's Bering Sea Gold (Discovery) is not yet showing.

Thanks,
b

As you noticed, it depends on the network. In some cases, I think Comcast essentially DVR's a copy from the national feed and puts it OnDemand (with the networks permission, of course.) For others, it may have to be submitted by the network itself.

Thanks. It looks like at least some networks are really slow, still no episodes from over a week ago.

It must involve more than just copying from the national feed. CBS shows play with no commercials, during each break is a promo for another CBS show and a public service announcement. Most other networks shows have commercials. And some block fast forwarding; others don't, not sure what technology is used for that.

It depends on the agreement the network has with Comcast.

If you watch the listings for a specific show you'll see that (if there is an agreement to do so) Comcast puts up what is basically a dump of the live feed of the episode the day after it airs, commercials and all. Those are also usually RR/FF locked.

Then after about a week that episode is pulled from the list, within a day or two later it will reappear, but this time without the live commercials from the original broadcast and it will have fewer (or no) commercials, and those adverts will be specific to the network it come from. Also once it ceases to be the newest episode, some networks will then allow you to RR/FF.

It's a flag in the OnDemand content.

Interesting, thanks for the info. Also noticed that the TV, PC, and mobile VOD offerings are different. My wife's favorite is Discovery channel's Bering Sea Gold, and she is bugging me that last week's episode is still not available on the TV VOD, although older episodes are there. For kicks, I checked to see if it is available on the PC from the Comcast website, but there no episodes at all of this show are available, although other Discovery channel shows are show. On the mobile app, nothing at all from Discovery channel is listed.
