I use this »getadblock.com/ with Safari and rarely see ads.
Not sure how well it works at CNN since I don't usually go there.

If these are specific ads on CNNs site, I never go there.

I use Adblock with Chrome.

I also select

EasyPrivacy (privacy protection)
Fanboy's Annoyances (removes annoyances on the Web)
Malware protection

I was not aware of CNN ads. I am using AdBlock 2.6.18 on Safari 7.0.1 OSX 10.9.1. I also have "ClickToFlash" installed.

I see no ads on either their main site, or on their video page (see above capture). If you are referring to ads which are part of the video stream itself, I don't know of anything available to remove those.

I used to have a set of host block entries to kill all the ads served up by HULU. Their ads were all served by separate ad servers and were easy to block once you identified all the ad servers. All I would see is a blank screen with a counter counting down the remaining ad time instead of the ads themselves. I no longer deal with HULU; even the "blank ads" became too much for me to handle.

Does Click to Flash work as it sounds, allowing Flash videos on sites if the viewer chooses?

Yes. It's a great plugin.

On sites that support Flash and HTML5 video, but default to Flash, it will automatically load the HTML5 video - which often doesn't have ads.

If something doesn't work, you can always right click on a site and select "allow flash on domain".

Appreciate it. I've now got it loaded.

I'm talking about the ads that play before you watch a video. NOT the ads on the site, those I have blocked.

Most (all?) video streaming services won't work right if you disable the video ads...
