LIVING WORLD

The Origins of Madness

For weeks, mysterious probes have been thrumming ominously all across Tyria. Now, the Vigil has ordered a trio of crusaders to investigate three mysterious new probes that have been sighted in Bloodtide Coast. Meanwhile, the Priory in Lornar’s Pass has observed Scarlet Briar’s watchwork minions streaming into their region. What’s the connection between these events, and what exactly is Scarlet up to?

•After forging new allegiances to take down Tequatl the Sunless, it’s now time for players to rally their forces together in an all-new epic encounter!

Triple Trouble Rewards

•Assisting in the investigation of wurm activity in Bloodtide Coast will give players a chance at new exclusive rewards:

I can't believe how much damn content they release for GW2. It's pretty much on a monthly basis they release something new to do.

I know Blizzard has said they want to release content at a faster pace for WoW. They need to take some notes from Anet.

Honestly that much content to me is a bad thing... I have not had time to play in a while and I feel as if I am hopelessly behind now.

I love being behind the hard core curve in MMO's. Always PLENTY to do and gear is cheap. That's just me though.

Yeah I'd like to see WoW adopt a more frequent patch cycle like GW2 or even Runescape.

The trouble is not all content is going to be for everyone, and the big patches WoW has just dumps a load of differing content onto you all at once, so if you're not into something, you just don't touch it. Take 5.4 for example, Proving Grounds one month, Timeless Isle another, Celestial tournament another then release the raid another. One patch spread over 4 months so people still feel like they are getting updates, actually experience content, and keep paying subs.

I really like the content releases in GW2. I came back around Halloween after not playing for 6 months and have not been bored yet. They've been putting the new stuff in zones that were for leveling, and otherwise just transitional. It's really added life back into the community.

As far as a gear grind, GW2 leadership has stated that they don't want the game to necessarily be about the gear (stats etc...), but more about the uniqueness of the looks you can attain/achieve. Thus, the limited skins with each event, or the "special" skins that can be purchased in their store. There are a few levels to the type of gear, but each level provides a slight improvement over the next. Nothing like other MMO's where the new gear was so OP that it made the older content irrelevent as far as rewards.

For me, the refreshing thing about the GW2 approach is that it keeps the "mouth-breathing" self appointed elites, out of the game. When I played WoW it was always about gearscore, and who could shake the gear tree the most for the stuff to fall out. That ruined it for me as the game was less about community, and more about who had the best stuff. It really became too easy to pimp out your toon after a few raids.

ANet has a really good formula going here. I hope they don't ruin it by turning it into a gear grind.

I don't think you can get better stats after legendary. My understanding is not to grind for gear stats, but to work for gear appearance or other achievements. Personally I find the people who play GW2 to be more helpful than WoW, likely due to all nodes and loot being individual to each player. If someone joins me in a fight, it only helps us both. If I revive them or they me, it adds to an achievement for resurrection (which becomes habit after a short time). No factions, means no PvP in a PvE area.

My only minor annoyance is with the difficulty of getting the been there done that achievement. ... sigh ... it's tough.

I have been leveling a warrior slowly. I still enjoy it and the world is still alive (on Jade Quarry that is). I may be on a bit more this weekend, anyone have any leveling tips? Thanks.

Usually there is a train in the Queensdale (starter human zone) that cycles through the bosses. Under level 10-12 players are very OP compared to NPC's, as you are downscaled to the area you are in, playing each starter area is good for a number of levels.

There are guides on how to get to level 80 with about 5 gold using professions, cooking is a relatively easy one to level. Always take an XP enhancer before starting to profession level (if you are trying to get to 80), be certain to have everything you'll need as the XP enhancer is on a timer.

The Queensdale train gives a reward bag, about 1 in 4 (if you have semi-decent magic find) will have a skill increase bonus. As there are 4 or 5 bosses (depending on the train, and if the wasp queen springs an extra boss), you have a chance to get a new skill every cycle.

It's grinding, and easy to do the train, doing starter areas is more fun for me, but the train has great appeal as it's safe and easy. Also leveling by learning things in a profession is almost a cheat imo. Unlike WoW, learning recipes grants the most XP, and XP in your profession becomes XP to level. It is common for me to gain several levels just learning a dozen recipes once I get to a new level in a profession.

Combat in WvW also levels. You can pick exploration, crafting, grinding, WvW, or dungeons to level. To start dungeons you must achieve level 30, which takes only an hour or so.

My advice/opinion for leveling is this. Just enjoy the game. If you do your personal story, complete the zones (Hearts, Vistas, POI's), farm nodes as you go, and learn a crafting profession you will get to 80 before you know it. WvW is a nice change of pace, as well as event completion, and daily achievements. GW2 is not skimpy with giving experience, so just enjoy the environment and artwork of the game as you play. If you rush, you'll miss all of that.

Champ train is really not ideal for leveling. Sure you'll get some experience, but it will be mindless and boring. Most 80's run the champ trains as a way to grind for level 80 gear drops to salvage for T6 mats, and hope for the occaisional rare or exotic level piece to drop.

The game has a ton of ways to get experience. You can get an experience booster that will help earn extra points in the Gem Store, or from those stupid Black Lion chests that you never have keys to open. Boosters also are awarded from completing a zone 100%, so there's another reason to finish your areas.

Have fun!

I get a black lion key about half the time when completing a map area. I'm not certain if magic find affects it. Recently in a black lion chest I got a makeover kit, which sell for gems in the store.

I agree with your post however, enjoy the content. I really liked the bell ringing event during the winter holiday event.

I need to log back in and try some of this stuff out, but I'm kinda like Micro in that I feel like I'm way behind. I don't even know what's what anymore. My favorite memory is still the Halloween event the year before last when I finally made it up the Mad King's Clocktower. Good stuff.
