[iPhone] So...a flametacular iPhone 5c, huh?

»9to5mac.com/2014/02/03/1 ··· -pocket/

A report says now that she sat on the iPhone, cracking it and possibly causing an internal short that set off the battery.

I'll be curious to see where the stock goes after the media freakazoids get ahold of it and start blaming Apple. The feeding frenzy will probably force Apple to come up with a free solid steel case to prevent kids from sitting on their iPhones...

While the media does go nuts with these things and generally you should not sit on a phone obviously, it should not burst into flames and cause a second degree burn.

Typical idiots replying there as if iPhones are the only phones that would or could happen to.

It amazes me how many people I see still put a phone in their back pocket, bare with no case at all.

Also insert the "MY x IS FINE" brigade.

I recently posted an anti-tmobile thing because of their weak signal penetration and got blasted that their service where they are at is fine times 500.

It's a possibility with ANY lithium-ion battery... Rupture the pack, and any of them can burn.

Just happens this battery was in an iPhone. Could have been a Samsung, an HTC, or any other device...

This. Sometimes I wonder why we ever thought Li-Ion batteries were a good idea.

User error. Not the phone at all, they were an idiot and sat on their phone.

Google "Avestor" for some interesting reading...

A high-capacity, lightweight Li-Po battery, that just happened to catch fire... Frequently.

I think its the energy density that today's devices require.
