[Channels] Cinémoi, channel 236

I'm not sure when this came on -- it got added on the TiVO guide a while back, but wasn't actually there; got removed; and appeared again today, and it's really there.

So far, it looks like a quasi-premium, with no commercials except PSAs, and no breaks. The most interesting thing about it is that it's widescreen SD, which I think is the first such national channel on Fios (there have been some locals).

Actually, I take it back -- there seemed to be no breaks in the movie I saw earlier, but there are some in this interview show on now (still with only PSAs).

[Channels] Re: Cinémoi, channel 236

Good catch. Currently Verizon is the only one carrying it, Direct TV dropped it.

It's in widescreen and the picture is pretty decent. It's another choice for the people searching for movies in that area of the lineup.

Apparently it was, originally; but everything I'm seeing now is in English. It seems to be vaguely arty movies and related programming, plus fashion stuff.

I am confused. Is this a true SD channel, but it is broadcast in 16:9 Widescreen? Just like the SD channel of WFN?

WFN is the only other SD channel I know of to broadcast in that way.

Local subchannel Cozi TV does it too

Yes, I agree. Cozi does do it, but not 24/7 like WFN SD does.

just watching the Quid Pro Quo movie. To me, it def is not a SD channel. The quality is def similar to the WFN SD channel. The quality is much better than a regular SD channel that down samples a HD feed.

Just checked it out. Standard definition all the way, has no hallmarks of an HD channel whatsoever.

I could be wrong, but I think this channel is being delivered as MPEG4, because I get it on my 7100 but not on the DCT700.

There are several other SD 16:9 anamorphic channels on FiOS. In NYC, I get these channels in 16:9 SD: BYU TV, MundoFox, Cozi TV, WFN, mtvU and Pivot. ABC News Now used to broadcast in 16:9 SD also, but that channel no longer exists.

MTVU and ABC News Now have/had an anamorphic image, but not the 16:9 flag. I have/had to manually change the zoom mode on my TiVo to see them in the correct aspect ratio. That's not true of Cinémoi.

I see that BYU TV is also now proper SD widescreen. It used to be letterboxed.

Re: [Channels] Cinémoi, channel 236

Unfortunately, none of their programming has closed captioning for the hearing impaired.

Yeah...really pisses me off. I had added it to my favorites list but I'm going to remove it since when browsing channels, I'll see something interesting and then realize that there is no captioning.

I used to contact broadcasters about closed caption issues but, it's such a frustrating and worthless exercise that I no longer do it.

Same on a FiOS Motorola 7232. The lack of a 16:9 flag is really annoying -- every time I tune into mtvU or Pivot, I have to hit the # key.

Cinémoi is doing it the right way -- already flagged for 16:9, no fiddling with the size button necessary.
