What's the point of the "Group" column?

Is there a particular intent behind the "Group" column? It shows up in the forum view and in the favorite forums view and yet it doesn't appear to be useful in any way that I can figure out. You can't click on it to filter a forum to that group. It's in the middle of the page layout for either "forum" view, making it difficult at best to be used for "scanning" the page.

So is there an intended use and I'm just too dense to see it? (Wouldn't be the first time! )

You can actually sort when in forum view. Above the topic listings, you'll see Groups:

Those are clickable links that will pull the particular group only:

Sure I know about those links, but that's not what I'm asking about.

What's the point of the COLUMN?

Thanks!

Justin didn't want it included in the visible titles in either forum or favorites view, so he placed it in a separate column, relatively out of the way but still visible.

I understand what was done. But what is the point? If it's mostly "out of the way" then why have it at all?

What purpose does it serve where it is now?

You look at the group column to see what the poster has tagged the post as. Just like you look at the replies column to see how many replies a topic has, or look at the Last Post column to see when the last post was. It's really pretty simple.
