Opening ceremonies in Sochi tonight. Ill probably watch or DVR them. Im always curious to see how they light the Olympic Flame thingy. Not sure how much else Im going to watch though. Possibly some skiing(downhill),snowboarding and speed skating short track races. DEFINITELY Curling! I watch that every chance I get and while I dont entirely understand the nuances of the game I really enjoy it. Probably wont watch much(any) figure skating or ice dancing. Nope on Hockey as well. Cant think of any other events that really interest me. Maybe some of the Bobsled as the sleds are built a couple miles from my house, but that gets boring pretty quick.
Anyone else? Watching or not watching? Favorite events?
I will just watch whatever is on, no DVR here. May watch a repeat if I hear of something cool online. I prefer skiing, snowboardcross, speed skating, and hockey. The wife likes ice dancing/skating, but I don't. If that is on, I watch F7B2 and F7B3 crunching!
Hey, I like to watch curling too! Don't know what it is about that game, but I really get a kick out of watching it.
I also like to keep an eye on the insane people who do ski jumping. There is NO WAY you could pay me enough money to go flying off into the air at a high rate of speed and then land on two little pieces of lumber.
Ice skating? Used to enjoy it years ago; not anymore. You just can't replace Michelle Kwan.
Luge is great! Do you remember back in the day on Wide World of Sports when the sleds were made of wood and they used to fly off the track at times? Looks a bit safer now and faster too!
If you want to go back to the old days of luge which were more like going-down-the-track-on-a-cafeteria-tray, check out skeleton.
I'll be watching quite a bit, but it'll depend on me finding it on TV when I happen to be in front of it. I'll watch a lot of hockey, and finals with countrymen/women in them, but other than those I'll be hoping to find biathalon, skeleton, bobsled and curling.
Winter sports rock. If ice fishing were an Olympic sport, I'd be working towards qualifying every winter.
Enjoyed the opening. The show bit after the athletes entrance was pretty awesome and the flame lighting was cool. Watched a little long track speed skating today and some of the biathlon. Pretty good so far.
I watched some of it last night and today at my sister's, and I'm now watching a story about helicopter pilots in the Vietnam war. It so amazes me how such young women and men take on such huge challenges. I suppose it helps that when you are young, you're more fearless. I saw part of the opening ceremony, it was quite beautiful, the part that told Russia's story was pretty cool, the alphabete part. What struck me was how some of those Russians recounted in that alphabete piece made America home, I'm part Russian, family came over from Lithuania and Russia just a few generations back. When I look at myself in the mirror I often wonder about my forebears from there.
The snow boarders are cool kids. Saw us get a gold.
Those irons......that's the new-fangled curling that I don't car for. I'm a traditionalist so I like to bang rocks together. In a heated game, sparks can fly!
We got to see some of the US and Canadia qualifiers leading up to the Olympics on various sports channels. Occasionally when I need a fix I can find a download or 3 on Usenet. There are actually 3 curling places in Connecticut but none are closeby enough to be able to just stop in and check it out.
And whilst on the topic of Canadia television.....LOVED Dresden Files! One of my favorite shows ever!
