Privacy Attitudes Microsoft Survey

Microsoft did their annual survey for Data Privacy Day involving 4 European nations and the USA. Attitudes toward privacy were similar in all but one area. In the area of Ease of Use vs Privacy the differences between the USA and Europe are striking although not unexpected. Sad though for us in the USA.

Hardly surprising. Almost every car in the US has cup holders (they're "convenient") but you won't find them in Europe (or elsewhere for that matter). Likewise many more cars outside North America have manual transmissions so you actually have to drive your vehicle.

The point being that many have become fat, dumb and lazy and since privacy is seen as a theoretical issue many couldn't care less about it.

Another issue at play here, IMO, is that many European countries have seen up close and personal the results of privacy loss (from Communism, Socialism and Fascism). Americans, generally being quite naive about such matters, have no clue where all this privacy loss can lead. There's a large amount of "that can't happen here". It can.
