Saw this on twitter:
"NBC News @NBCNews 8m
Comcast (owner of NBCUniversal) to acquire Time Warner Cable in $45.2 billion all-stock deal, according to CNBC sources.."
I would rather be a Comcast customer than a Charter customer.. Comcast at least seems to do speed upgrades etc for their customers.
According to sources it seems that Comcast would likely sell off some of the Time Warner markets to Charter.
(I would hope they keep Columbus) I really don't want to be a Charter customer. |

Just got an alert about this too.
Better than Charter for sure. I had horrid luck with Comcast on the TV and billing fronts down in FL but Internet service was all right. Speed/price they offer now in most areas is competitive. Probably means we're inheriting the monthly cap, though.
Edit: Sell off some markets to Charter? Oh God, no. Please not Dallas. |

Dallas is one of TWC's premier markets, so Comcast may want to keep us. That said, I'm afraid they may only be in this for the NYC market and could care less about the rest.
Having to choose between Charter and U-Verse (the only other provider at my address) is a conundrum I hope I am never thrust into. |

NYC. LA markets. No wonder why twc said 300/20. Dump it on comcast's dime. But I doubt it, it goes past the fed. |

Here comes the bandwidth caps! Get ready for your $800 monthly bills in the future because you wanted to watch a few 4K movies that month and have to pay overage fees on top of the movies you've paid for. |

Ugh, a new cable company after Century Communications, Adelphia Communications, Time Warner Cable, and now Comcast since early 2001? |

Comcast was wonderful! When TWC bought Comcast out, thats when I started having problems. It's gotten a lot better though over the last few years. From what I understand they replaced a lot of the lines here on my street, and it seems to of helped a lot. I dont know if that had anything to do with TWC or just something they fixed once they got it. |

I first got adelphia, then TWC, and now comcast.. granted comcast does have better speeds especially upload speed.. but the caps will make it pointless. |

Exactly. If they take NE Ohio and we get caps, I'll have to consider moving to UVerse even though I hate the RG. Alternatively, I'll see if I can get work to use my house as a DR facility and give me a P2P link to work via dark fiber. I do something like 270-280GB/month 100% legally between SamKnows and my wife streaming Netflix shows. That's precariously close to the Crapcast caps. I can only pray that WOW comes in and takes our area instead... they are already nearby. |

Only $29.99/mo

The caps are complete BS, because their service is not sold as "50mbit until you hit some arbitrary limit that we decide." I like the reporting that SamKnows affords me, but it is also generating most of the traffic on my line. I could easily quit the project, but I shouldn't have to stop providing a valuable service (the reporting is supposedly used by the FCC as part of the broadband statistics) just because my (future) ISP wants to squeeze more money from its customers.
Data caps are nothing but a money grab. This is exactly the sort of crap that AT&T did as a phone company before they got split up into the regional Bells.
The FCC needs to grow a pair and classify ISPs as common carriers so they then have the power to prevent consumers from getting screwed any further.
The problem here is that NBC/Crapcast is now so massive with so much lobby power that they are going to be hard to stop (since money greases the wheels in our broken political system). |

I really hope that Comcast will sell SoCal area to Charter. We have Charter in North area but we have TWC in south. Make sense for Charter to take over TWC in SoCal. I prefer Charter than Comcast though. |

I agree that download caps should be banned. If a single user is causing massive congestion to the point that they are slowing things down for other users, a transfer rate limit could always be implemented on that user. So, theres just no need for download caps even for network management. I do agree that as well there should be no destination/source based throttling. ISPs are common carriers and its beyond belief that anyone would think otherwise. said by bradenmcg:The caps are complete BS, because their service is not sold as "50mbit until you hit some arbitrary limit that we decide." It will be interesting for sure. In Southern California, Time Warner and Charter dominate and I have a feeling these TW systems would probably be sold off to Charter. Its already a mess with all former Adelphia and Comcast markets being Motorola headends and TW legacy markets being Cisco. Charter is still using SA equipment with an old school SARA guide here in SoCal and would have to do major upgrades to standardize the systems. If Charter kills off CableCards that will be a major disappointment. |
