I'm Hearing Things
Dell desktop with win7 installed, 2 VERY OLD Harmon/Kardon speakers and sub woofer connected.
I am picking up what sounds like someone yammering on a CB radio. I only hear one side of the 'conversation' and am assuming I'm picking up a powerful base station ?
Interesting part is that the volume of what I am hearing does not change when I raise/lower the computer's speaker volume. Some part of my PC acting as a local antenna ?
Any ideas (other than ear plugs) on how to get rid of this ?
My guess is the wiring from the H/K to the PC is acting as an antenna.
Make sure all the audio connector ends are CLEAN... A poor ground connection (Outside ring on the audio plug) can result in RFI pickup...
One other thing to try is to wrap several turns of the audio cable (the end closest to the speaker amp) around a ferrite core.
If You're Unsure, "RTFM"... If You're SURE, "RTFM" Anyway.
I pulled the cable from the PC to the sub woofer (amongst others). If I bent the cable at the strain relief near the plug to the PC, I'd start getting a humm. Flaky ground ?
I futzed around with the cable some more and the humm stopped, at least for now. And I am not hearing the CB chatter in my speakers, at least for now. The cable is a mini phono type plug (1/8" ?). Should be an easy replace if the noise comes back.
Thanks for the help

Most likely someone has a LINEAR and thats why they are interfering... (CB operators are the worst...They dont care who they hurt with thier RF!! (Some WILL stop using them if you nicely ask them but most dont care and its sad))
Im glad you got it resolved!!
