[Software] SpeedStream 4100, Technician Readout, Line 13, Modem Configured

My original 4100 broke. The switch wouldn't stay, and it seems like cold weather made it lose the connection.

I had another one on hand that I was going to be using with another computer, but haven't been. Anyway, I replaced the modem I was using with this one.

I thought it would be good to get another 4100 as a backup, since it seems like a good modem, so I got one from e-bay. After being received, I reset it, and this is what got me into comparing the settings between the two.

I updated software on the new one from version 1.0.0.48 to 1.0.0.53

The only big difference I notice between the two is in the Technician Readout, Line 13, Modem Configured . . . the one I have been using says true, the new one says false.

I went into Connection Configuration on the new one, changed something (Smart keep alive to Connect on demand) / saved it . . . and it still says false . . . I changed it back . . . and it still says false

I went into Win 8 Control Panel / Network and Sharing Center / Ethernet / Properties / IPV 4 and 6 / Properties . . . and both are on Obtain IP automatically . . . so that would be configuring the modem, right? No, no change, it still says false.

What do you have to do, to get it to say that the Modem Configuration is true?

Speedtest.net shows me that it's working fine, just like the one I've been using.

I honestly don't know. I have one SS4100. Before the firmware update:

4 Friendly Name SpeedStream 4100 ADSL Modem
5 Model Description Single Port Ethernet Modem
6 Model Name SpeedStream
7 Serial Number 2000B23E7661F
8 Hardware Version 1.0
9 Modem DSL Firmware Version a1.01.00.00
10 Modem Software Version 1.0.0.48
11 Hardware Options -
12 Software Options -
13 Modem Configured true

15 Current Time 2005/ 9/18 17:51:40 GMT

After the firmware update:
1 Manufacturer Siemens Subscriber Networks, Inc.
2 Vendor ID b50045464e540400
3 Model Number 4100
4 Friendly Name SpeedStream 4100 ADSL Modem
5 Model Description Single Port Ethernet Modem
6 Model Name SpeedStream
7 Serial Number 2000B23E7661F
8 Hardware Version 1.0
9 Modem DSL Firmware Version a1.01.00.00
10 Modem Software Version 1.0.0.53
11 Hardware Options -
12 Software Options -
13 Modem Configured true

15 Current Time 2006/11/11 18:59:26 GMT

Comparing the remaining lines shows no obvious difference.

SBC never shipped a manual. The manual from the Siemens site was generic, and did not cover the SBC specifications.

Seems like this should have become available from someone, sometime.

Would be great if this site were a repository of pdfs of tech manuals for all the modems.

I guess I'll just have to chalk it up as a mystery, and go by that "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." Thx.

Wait, I had a hunch, and just checked it . . . and yes, now it says . . .

Modem Configured: true

It says this on line 32:

32 Time Since Last Sync, 002 days 00:38:45

. . . so it's been on for two days . . .

I wonder what goes on inside this thing, and how it works.
