don't think it really matters, think it's just a reference number for the channels your modem is currently connected to. |

What were they & what are they now. More importantly, look at the actual frequencies. |

Did the number completely change, or just change order? It's not unusual for it to maybe sync to a different channel first, then the rest may come in a different order. |

Yes completely new numbers . used to be 1-8 now its 18-25 I believe |

Maybe your cable system has 24 downstream channels, and since your modem only sees 8 at a time, they are just load balancing the system by putting some customers on 1-8, some on 9-16, some on 17-24, etc.
There are some cable companies that use 16-channel bonding, so maybe Comcast is now doing the same in your market? |

They skipped "13" because it's an unlucky number... |

Channel ID's are mostly for the onsite tech to make sure your modem is locked on to the rightly provisioned frequencies from your area's CMTS. The CMTS has certain Channel ID's/frequencies for a given area/neighborhood. If you recognize your area's frequencies, then Channel ID's aren't much help other than a classification at the CMTS level. |
