FiOS Internet outage in NYC

Hello.
In VHO-5 There's a local area outage on Staten Island, NY
Eltingville/Annadale area AFAIK, Maybe more
Internet's sluggish to non usable; Like 1 meg
No ETA on a fix
Trouble ticket code # NYGC12W1030100A

On SI, I've seen more then a few more FiOS trucks around, I thought it was maybe due to Deblasio drop kicking Verizon's ass into gear with installation
There was a Install truck on the block a few doors down yesterday, I just assumed it was an install. Maybe not
The Verizon cellular isn't doing too well here either, Maybe related???

Anyone else in NYC having problems?

Re: FiOS Internet outage in NYC

I thought I was the only one .. I was wondering why ps4 updates are saying 4 hours to 7 hours.

Speedtest did 0.49 / 7 mbps up

75/35 crazy..

would it be silly to complain on chat and get some credits for this?

Affecting a good chunk of the northeast it seems. Averaging 10% packet loss to anywhere outside of verizon's network. Smells like net neutrality is playing a role as well. I spent 30minutes on hold to get told ETA to fix is tomorrow afternoon 2pm.

No.. no it doesn't.

Don't diminish "net neutrality" by invoking it every time something goes wrong.

Sounds like maybe a link went down somewhere and now the remaining ones are over-congested. From the other post, sounds like Verizon is aware of the problem and fixing it.

I've been seeing this issue for 3 weeks now. Sporadically but its definitely been persistent for a while now.

A friend by the south street seaport is/was impacted. I don't believe I was impacted in queens but I didn't run any speed tests to confirm.

This morning my upload was back to normal but my download was up to 5Mbps from 1Mbps on my 150/65Mbps package with ping time around 56ms, way up over the usual 5ms times. This was on speedtest.net using the Optimum Online server.

1 recommendation

All, there is a backbone outage in NYC causing the slow speeds. IP NOC is aware, and working towards a resolution.

I'm getting 4/36 on 75/35 service in Fresh Meadows. VZ chat support confirmed an outage in the area and put a credit on my account.

Yeah, this started last night for me. Everyone in my family was wondering why the internet was so sluggish. At least Verizon knows about it.

This has been a bad winter salt could do very bad damage to under ground utilities.

Salt really wont affect fiber, straight piece of glass from c.o. to fdh.Even a splice case full of water shouldn't really affect unless it turns into a block of ice, and compresses the fibers, which wont happen in a manhole.Cut or damage to fiber yes.Probably a piece of equipment inside.

At least it seems to be fixed. I've been on for two years and there has been this one glitch. Not bad and if this was TWC they will sill be telling people to visit there store and replace there cable modem.

Received a text just now stating they had resolved the outage though i've been able to see some normality in service since some time last night.

It says there is more information at verizon.com/outage though that page seems altogether useless in providing any sort of information of any kind. The only thing I see on it is being able to sign up for notification of outages which seems counterintuitive considering your service would be down and you wouldn't be able to sign up to find out if it were.

Edit:

Update. I would recommend not signing up for the outage notification. They have been spamming me with emails and texts for the last 2 hours non-stop informing me that they have fixed the outage with a link to the useless outage webpage.

The speeds and ping are better here, But it still just feels sluggish
I've rebooted everything, and strangely have received a new IP

Edit: Spoke to them, They said "Manhole fiber got burned up in your area"
Still at least several thousand people out or intermittent like I am

I have been having slow download speeds, problems loading some web pages, and lockups for more than a week now. The problems did not just start a few days ago.

The speedtest on VZ's own site is jury rigged, says that I am back to normal speeds, but I don't believe it. Still too much sluggishness.

How much credit did you get? Was it for a partial day, whole day, or several days?

This issue will not require a technician. Verizon is committed to resolving your issue on March 2, 2014 around 5:00 PM.The ticket number for your repair request is NYEG0C9Z7R.
