This is one of the reason they are so popular among independent ISP. This is why users choose to leave Bell or Videotron has their internet provider too. You don't often see the CEO talking directly to his customer on a regular basis. When was the last time you saw that on a big ISP?
Hope it help explain a little bit the post. |

You want to know if your speed issue is due to oversubscription or poor management, you get to know the real numbers with us. If we don't manage well, we're on the public place so there are less excuses and better management. |

I, for one, love to see what my ISP is up to, in terms of network and and network hardware. I find it fun to know what happens behind the scenes.
On a related note, does anyone know how much of ebox's traffic goes through cogent in relation to other transit providers? |

Thanks! So would it be safe to assume the other 75% is just Peer1 and Tinet/GTT/nlayer and a tiny amount of HE? Or am I missing something? |

HE is not connected but we plan to replace Peer1 by them if we're able to negotiate something good. Peer1 is too expensive and we're running a battle to reduce our cost to avoid raising rates.
We have Peer1 (about 4G), Cogent (4G), Tinet (1G) and Nlayer (3G) + 1.5-2.0 G (QIX + GGC) |

Cool , I guess the HE I see is through QIX then. Keep us informed about any transit changes, it's always cool to know. Thanks again! |

When we see that you guys manage very well, we get more confident and it makes us easier to support you guys as well. When we see someone with an issue, we can assume that most of the time, it's on issue on his side (modem, computer or a setting somewhere) or even an issue on Vidéotron's network instead of an issue from eBox. |

What's the contention ratio for a residential IISP? 30:1, 25:1, 20:1? |

said by edugas:What's the contention ratio for a residential IISP? 30:1, 25:1, 20:1? For Québec cable 30Mbps: If they put 15$/client for capacity, the ratio is 50:1. Capacity + transit is 750$ for 30Mbps. Plus they have to pay 23.77$/client to the cablo. 14.23$ to pay employees, rent, equipment, etc. 15$+23.77$+14.23$ = 53$ |

Depends on who their target audience and historical activity is
