Want to turn a logo into a coloring picture | Colored logo |
OK - so I have a logo (see attached) for our preschool and want to make it into like just an outlined image for the kids to color. (does that make sense?) (and the image attached is a transparent PNG which is why it is an ugly black background attached here, we just have a plain white background usually) Imagine a how a a child's coloring book is, with just a thin black border of the objects that the kids color in, I want to do that with our logo and have the kids color it, I think it would be cute and sense they're coloring stuff anyway and learning their letters, have them do this. I figured it'd be simple but I tried a few things and can't get it to work. Can someone here either tell me how to do it (I use Paint.net, not fancy photoshop or whatever) or do it for me please? YES! Like that but with a the lines outlining the apple, chalk board, and hair a little better, but yes that's the exact "effect" I was looking for! Gonna be so cute when they color it!! Edit: OK either I missed it the first time or you edited the pic real fast because I look at it now and looks great! |

Glad it works for you. Yes, I noticed when I uploaded it that it was missing some detail so I did edit it. |

Hey - can you kinda explain how you did that anyway? I know some basics of photo editing so if you say it I might understand what you mean. |

You can achieve this effect by using Topaz Simplify. Select the Cartoon preset and then click the Edges button. I'm sure there are other plug-ins that will do something similar. |

I must be doing it wrong, I have not been able to get images converted like that. I was hoping to create coloring images for me neices and nephews. Guess I need to play with it some more. ;o) |

Each image will be different and some images just don't convert well. If you don't have Topaz Simplify, you could try Paint.Net which is a free program and go to Effects -> Artistic -> Find Edges or Effects -> Artistic -> Pencil Sketch. Good luck. |

You can also do it in Paint Shop Pro. Effects - Edge Effects - Find All Adjust - Brightness & Contrast - Threshold (I used 220) Effects - Edge Effects - Erode (you can repeat this to make the outlines heavier) |

Thanks, and thanks for the Paintshop instructions too. I only have the free paint.net but looks like Paintshop isn't too expensive so may check that out also. |

I waited until a new version of PSP came out, then bought the old one for half price. |

It's quite possible I was trying to use an image that just wasn't right. I always go for the difficult ones first. lol
This has given me the desire to try again. |

Just wondering if any of you pro's use GIMP? I've been using it for a while - I like it, but not as much as Photoshop. But it is free!
(Btw, I'm a long time lurker in this forum) |

Been using GIMP for years. Works nicely for layers, effects, curves, levels, rotation etc. The add-on is not so hot for RAW files. I'll preprocess in camera, then use the camera's accompanying software or Raw Therapee, which is really nice. |

I've been also been using GIMP for years and agree it's not so hot for RAW files. To fix that, I use the free Nikon software ViewNX 2 to convert RAW to JPG and run GIMP from there. GIMP's FX Foundry will take care of just about anything you can think of. It's all I need for the Artify threads. |
