Manage Advanced Sharing Settings |
Windows 7 SP1 in Control Panel under
Manage Advanced Sharing Settings, I noticed two profiles: Home/Work and Public
I'm standalone (no actual network setup to other computers). The Home/Work (Home network) profile is set just how I want it with File and Printer sharing completely disabled. Cool!
Do I care that in the Public profile everything looks good
except one line that indicates that "File and Printer sharing" is
ON? Network Discovery in Public profile is turned OFF. But nothing I do to change the File and Printer sharing line will keep it in OFF position under Public profile. I suspect by default Windows 7 has it that way and I just don't yet understand why. Since I'm not on the Public profile, I guess I shouldn't care one way or the other.
One last observation: In Windows Firewall (advanced firewall settings- Outbound Rules), I noticed that some of the
Outgoing File and Printer Sharing traffic is disabled in particular for "domain" & "private" networks but for PUBLIC profile these same items are ALLOWED. Once again I'm lost but I'm sure there's a perfectly good explanation. Don't worry, I'm not touching a thing here until I know what I'm doing.
