Popcorn TimeReddit and Time are mentioning Popcorn Time as a means to basically accomplish for Torrents what Indexers do for NNTP. Here's a link to the site: » getpopcornti.me/Does anyone have any experience with this? I may consider switching to a seedbox or VPN for better access to content if this works. |

Interesting, I wonder how they will last? Granted if they just streamed public domain movies, they might be able to last. Interesting that they have a cross platform client as well. |

It's open source, free, and has zero donations or ad support. It piggybacks off a torrent clientwhich use multiple other sources like an indexer. It streams rather than stores, which is nice. Use a VPN and you basically have god-mode Netflix. |

We'll be right back! Careful when downloading from other sources, as we have the only official ones. |

They should merge with Popcorn Hour. Don't know what the underlying torrent client they use is. If it's some custom job then it's only usable on public trackers, in which case, not interested. |

They're using Yify torrents for all the movies. It's a public tracker, so if you don't want that, then just get the Yify movies through a VPN or a seedbox. This is the same as getting stuff from TPB. » yify-torrents.com/ |

Was hoping to read a glimmer of a hint of a comeback for them, but nada. |

I imagine the open source files are there. There wasn't any real dependence upon the site actually functioning in order for it to work, was there? |

» torrentfreak.com/popcorn ··· -140315/The people now taking over the project are apparently the same ones behind the torrent tracker that popcorn time was pulling its torrent data from when it was up and running. |

A Popcorn Hour with Popcorn Time on it might be pretty sweet. If it came with a VPN. |

This is going to have the same basic flaw as torrents in general--that you will be uploading the same time you are downloading and thus risk legal action for copyright infringement. |

I would think the natural assumption is you use a VPN for torrents by now. |

I'm not really familiar with the exact legal position of torrenting movies. I had assumed that legal action could be taken against seeders but not people who only had partial downloads. Since Popcorn Time does not require a complete copy of the film before playing it would not be seeding... |

With a regular torrent uploading begins shortly after downloading starts--it does NOT wait until the whole movie is downloaded. |
