Re: The Mythical 4th National Carrier

said by Guspaz:

For those wondering what we're talking about, this is what Videotron causes Fido to do in Quebec:

Fido $44 (Ontario)
500 minutes (unlimited evenings/weekends)
500MB data
$50/GB data overage

Fido $45 (Quebec)
Unlimited minutes
1GB data
$10/GB data overage

....etc....

Does this effect apply in ALL parts of QC, or just in 'home' zones such as Montreal ?

Note to harper. We don't need a 4th national carrier, if all they will do is follow the current telco mafia's schemes...

What we need is fair prices from the current ones and all will be fine. The coverage is there.

Actually I disagree 100% with the statement of not needing a 4th national carrier. 2.5 players (as Telus and Bell share a network) does not allow the market to fairly run competitively.

I think the rules need to be lifted to allow a 4th national carrier to operate without all the crippling hurdles.

The reason WIND has not been able to grow has not been unacceptance by customers as much as the rules making it near impossible to grow from scratch and allow investment. Is there spots where TOWERS/Networks should be shared... for sure! But with ROGERS and BELL/Telus running the whole system, it does now allow fair market to operate. As well the rules restricting ownership of a LEASE of spectrum has also limited the ability to allow growth by the new players.

Canadians if you offer quality service, for a lower price would move over to the new players.. The biggest issues now are network availability by the new guys, which if it doesn't work, people will not use it.
