Happy Vernal Equinox!

Happy spring all! While looking out the window says "winter", we're not that far from the end of the tunnel.

To celebrate here in southern NH we got another inch of snow. But it is already 35F so it won't last long.

Hope the cold snowy winter will reduce the tic population this summer.

That is a neat sundial, we will have to get one like it this this summer.

When I was in grade school tried to make one in the playground. Got confused because "minutes" didn't change.

More Springy Stuff!
2 lambs were born last night at the Taylor-Bray Farm here in the village.

A friend gets up at some ungodly hour of the morning for photography and sent this to me.

Spring cleaning continues tonight when I quit the Taliban! (shave my beard)
I usually shave from Spring to Thanksgiving. I ran out of razors in the middle of September. Boss-Lady asked "Did you forget to shave?" I answered "Go Red Sox!"
The amount of grey is disturbing.

I made a bunch of them in the 1990's. Pre-internet, it was still a hidden set of formulae. »sundials.org/ is a good place to start.
"Sundials, Their Theory and Construction" is a good book.
I use re-rod because it's cheap and easy to work with. 'Drops' from the local metal supply works well for the gnomon (pointy thing) Bronze brazing rod is good for small units.
Good luck!

Edit:
If you buy one, get it from a local Artiste. The Made in China dials don't work. They have to be made for a specific Latitude and Longitude. If the hours are equidistant degrees and the gnomon (pointy thing) is 45°, it won't work.
