So..um...how is Youtube doing for everyone?

I started to try to play a video about 5 minutes ago in another tab. Then I came here and read about five posts. Finally the first second or two of the video played and now it's buffering again. :/ For those who don't work at BH or have never worked for BH how is it going for you? Things have been fine for a while here until now. Just curious.

I do not work for Bright House, nor have I ever worked for Bright House.

It has been running fine for me as far as buffering, but I am using that YouTube extension which as of late has been causing a weird problem with the current time indicator vs. what has been downloaded indicator.

Thanks! I forgot to mention I'm in CFL.

I just clicked reload again and it seems okay. I guess we'll see. The previous six tries failed.

Hmm. Still messing up here after all. Looks like it's somewhat intermittent. I haven't tried things like disabling all extensions . I guess I'll do that if it keeps up but if anyone else is seeing the problem where videos load very very very slow please share.

You don't get a choice in the matter but it's good to see you too Paradigmfl. And to answer your question my Youtube is working just fine.

I'm one of the ones who has almost never had an issue since installing the YouTube Center plugin or whatever it is called. Last night I had some horrid speeds, but a reboot of all my devices cleared that up.

On my desktop served by BHN, my Youtube works without issue.

On my laptop on the Mayo Clinic network, it works pretty good too..

No plugins or fixes...

Firefox on Win7x64 at home, and Win7x32 on laptop.

I had issues before where I had to use a proxy to get Youtube working in the evenings. Over the last 2-3 months I have yet to encounter a buffering issue.

So right now YouTube is great

I was watching some videos earlier, and they were randomly stopping, and not at the end of the buffered section. It was annoying when you can sit here and see that it is downloading quickly, but the video still stops.

That would be a system problem meaning yours. Buffering as is being discussed here only occurs when playback exceeds that of the download itself.

Maybe check out this if you have the issue again.

It might help with your particular problem?

You have no way to say that for sure. "It's your problem not ours" without any actual info other than he's got buffering. Typical "get them off the phone" tech support.

Jeff expanding on what I posted a few a go. Open up the task manager and see what you have running at the moment the video is running. Something other than the download itself is causing the studdering. There are really only two reasons for this IF the download is progressing well beyond the play threshold (1) system related or (2) the video itself is corrupted or just lame in some way. If you need help let me know.

Youtube is working great for me without disabling dash.

Also, disabling DASH means 720p max quality

I read about that before. Also I think it means many videos will be stuck around 320p too since I believe the next incremental step isn't available without dash enabled. The net effect is that for a significant amount of videos you end up stuck on the next lowest supported level ( 320p) since there is nothing higher supported for that particular video.

I certainly am not blaming BHN for this problem, as I think it is totally an issue with youtubes player. Although you are right, I do tend to have quite a few tabs open, and when I do look, it is usually facebook eating up all the memory. Because anytime you open a link from there, it never gives back the memory until you close every tab associated with it.

I know you aren't don't worry about that and if you were that's okay too. I want to help you find out what it is...(kinda curious myself)....so if you feel up to it we can move to a temporary venue and discuss it...your call only if you can't figure out what it is

Thanks, but it really is sporadic. Just watched a couple videos and they played perfectly. I guess it could just be bad copies that the player is hiccuping on, although I just opened a video I played yesterday that I had trouble with, and it played with no problem. My guess is you are right about having too many things open when I do it, as right now I had cleaned up a bunch of the stuff.

Remember just because your browser will allow you to have 40 tabs open it doesn't mean you should

This has in fact been brought up before, who is really relying on YouTube for super duper high def internet videos?

I don't usually watch Youtube, but when I do, I prefer...to just use a plugin to download the videos to local storage, watch them, then delete.

If you're a moderate to heavy Youtube user, this is probably too annoying, but if there's only a few videos/channels you're interested in, queue up each video, download it, and watch them all without interruption when they're done. I use this Firefox plugin: »addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox···dio-dow/ . It's very easy to download videos in just a couple clicks.

If you want 1080p, you can get that too with that plugin, but Youtube doesn't make it hassle free. Youtube splits 1080p video and audio into 2 files, so you have to remux them into one. You need ffmpeg for that, and you can even link ffmpeg to that plugin and it will do the remux for you. I prefer to do it by hand (well, with a python script). Also, if you really want the best quality and have bandwidth to spare, download both the 1080p video and the 720p file (which contains both an audio and video stream), extract the audio from the 720p file, and mux that with the 1080p video. The reason is that the plugin reports that the 1080p audio stream file is actually at a lesser bitrate than the stream in the 720p file, but the difference is minimal.

Plus, sometimes I find that your OS's player renders better than the Flash player.

Still trash, whats it been? 5-6 years?

I did find that switching to the HTML5 player allows me to watch actual 360p videos without much issue...

Anything HD is still a no go

On an unrelated note...

Twitch.tv is also garbage now
