Switch from POTS...Most Verizon customers will NEVER be able to get FiOS!

If Verizon continues of their obnoxiously greedy and short sighted course MOST of their customers will only have ONE choice get a Verizon wireless plan, which are very expensive, still have significantly less reliable connections that old copper,
(this is a fact even today) and heavily capped.

Frankly since this is a regulated company they should be severely penalized for not building out their fiber network. It is clear that OUR gov't is NOT doing what is in the best interest of the public. Instead highly paid lobbyists are of questionable legality and BUYING OFF OUR REPRESENTATIVES!

Perhaps if FTTH were regulated, then yes. But since dial tone is whats regulated, thats what the telcos are required to provide and service.

Boom! There it is. Stop blaming for profit entities for maximizing profits. Look at your legislators if you really want to affect change.

Blaming the government does not absolve corporations of their responsibilities (and vice versa). The telecom industry in the 1990s collected untold billions in subsidies and tax incentives from the federal government to deploy fiber, and they never did. More correctly, they may have deployed some fiber but it was for their own backhaul and/or never lit up for residents and businesses. The government should hold ISPs accountable for FULFILLING the contract it signed when it STOLE those tax dollars, but that hasn't happened. Plenty of guilt to go around here.

Their responsibility to follow the law?

That was my point.

The Telcos are not regulated like they were in the past. This is because the Feds forced them to share their networks. No one else is regulated except the Telcos and many customers have moved to the unregulated choices of wireless and cable or in this case FiOS.

You can not know what Verizon's wireless connections will be like in 20 years + when they completely dump POTS. You can't even tell 2 years out.

I can tell you they likely won't be any more reliable than they are now, and of course since they only will service a tiny portion of their customers with FiOS, the cost of that wireless connection will be even MORE OUTRAGEOUS!

Verizon would love wireless only. Here's what they would also love to do, change all that regulation language.here's a good read.

I don't know where you get your information, but Verizon was heavily criticized when they used their own money for the initial deployment of FiOS. Their Stockholders saw this as a waste of money and a very risky plan. Verizon only went into areas they thought would generate revenue, but this idea failed. People bought only the bare minimums and were not interested in faster speeds or their Fiber Products.

Now people like you want to force Verizon to deploy Fiber when clearly the demand is not there. No Company is going to deploy new technology like Fiber when no one will buy it. Even Google has strict criteria for their Fiber deployment.

This being said, I still think Fiber is the best solution, but the Average Person has no idea about Fiber they think it's Magic. I lived in a Community with 5000 homes, and Verizon came in with FiOS in the initial Roll Out years ago. Less than a quarter of the homes signed up. It wasn't until their Contract with TWC terminated and I had some convincing information for the Association to offer the Contract to Verizon. Now everyone in the Community are on FiOS and most are happy, but they still don't like paying for having the best solution.
