US spy network did not notice chatter on Crimea

It was stated elsewhere that the US saw the buildup of Russian forces along the Crimean border, did not catch any chatter about what was happening. Their "spy network" came up empty. You have to wonder if any of Snowden's documents aided the Russians, and any other countries, for that matter.

Did you not happen to notice that the president of Russia is ex-KGB? He's a paranoid who doesn't use computers or cell phones much because he knows what's possible. It doesn't take a genius to figure this stuff out.

Yes, I knew that, but he has be President of Russia for a while. The statements were made that the US had noticed the troop buildup, but did not notice any chatter, stated in a way where this was a new thing - that they had been able to pick up chatter / news before. I am not saying Snowden is the cause, but it is a coincidence. Maybe our NSA / CIA just got worse at spying on people.
