Best Way to Stream Music from Home To Work PC

Hi All:

What is the easiest way to stream my music collection from home to my work PC? I'm partial to Winamp, so if possible, I'd like to be able to play it from Winamp at work. Windows 7 on both machines. Thanks!

SMB mount over a VPN?

Does your work place any restrictions on the internet such as blocked ports?

Why not put your music on a USB memory stick and not mess with your companies bandwidth? Most companies don't like employees installing software on work computers, and a lot of companies have their computers locked so any/all "installs" of software are blocked. I'd check with your companies IT person first. You don't want to piss off the IT people, unless you like being on the end of the list for hardware/software upgrades.

What I don't Ike about Google Music is once I upload I cannot then download the same music. I realize that this would create a licensing issue. What I like is that, as I understand it, Google will automatically replace the uploaded mp3 with theirs if theirs is of higher quality.

I had thought about Google Music, but how does Google handle music files that may or may not have been purchased legitimately? Not that I would ever do such a thing.

Dropbox. Put your music there and it will be mirrored to both computers. That's where I keep my itunes library. Plus it gets backed up that way too.

I use Tonido Plug2. I have a 3 TD WD Green set up with my music, video, and pictures that I can access anywhere that has an internet connection.

Why would you want to download your Google Music? It is a streaming service.

Presuming I upload all of my music to Google Music I'd like to be able to then download it locally to any device I own. Music only streams where/when I have a data connection. I was skiing today and don't have great data on the hill. Over this weekend I'll be in central Utah and data is not very good.

I'd like to be able to download the music to an SD card for example.

But if your going somewhere without coverage I would transfer the data over on your computer via USB. Google Music does allow you to save tracks to your device, I have never heard any quality issues...

I forgot one part... the only way Google Music allows you to download is if you install their manager software. I refuse to do this. It should not be needed.

Google Music is the least likely to violate company network policies. I have no clue how the network admins and bosses would feel about VPN to home or loading files off a USB stick that are not strictly work related.

I think you can download your music:
»support.google.com/googl ··· =2485945

apparently only twice.

Twice using the web interface. After that you must use the Music Manager.

I don't know of a winamp solution but ........ I know of an easy solution.

most people I've known trying to do streaming from home use subsonic. It's kind of like a web server that lets you stream anything over standard http. You can also password protect it so that you're the only one that has access. It's pretty cool and has tons of features, everything plays in the browser and you can setup playlists like on winamp.

they also have a demo available of the interface so you can see what it's like before you try it.
