I don't worry about it.

I likely won't either.

Apple has never been shown to do anything 'evil' with customer data.

So far, only as we know. Yet this is a matter of opinion.
said by dennismurphy:

Microsoft of course does the same thing.

No doubt!

So does Ubuntu.

What! Really? ~ Not to be a Poindexter, but can you share please and thank you?
That is surprising indeed.

So does your ISP. So does your power company.

Probably not the right forum for this.

So does your government.

OK U R right. Rand Paul for President to bring this bastard government to heel. We agree.

It's no better or worse no matter where you go, honestly.

You have to have some level of trust for what goes over the wire anyway, and we all know what the score is there.

The OS isn't the interesting data collection point .,..

Yes, I do agree. So long as the service providers give direct physical access to the NSA, it is impossible to have privacy.

But this is getting off topic.

Right now I have two candidates: Office for Mac and Postbox.

Is there a reason you're not looking at the builtin mail.app? I promise it doesn't suck like outlook express or any of the MS builtin tools.

Here are some reasonable questions that will influence my choice.

1. Does the xxxx software (sw) have ability to import messages, folders and contacts from a Windows(x64)-based Microsoft Outlook *.pst file?
2. What about message rules?
3. Can the sw export to an archive from both/either Windows/Mac?
4. Can the sw import from a postbox archive-file generated by the opposite file-type of computer (Windows vs. Mac)?
5. Does ANY mechanism exist to convert postbox archive from Windows to Mac and vice versa? If 'yes,' please explain.

Outlook2Mac. Worth the $10. Will convert a PST to Mac format.

Everything else in your list, Mail.app will do.

Mail.app's native format is Unix-style mbox. As close to a standard as it gets.
