Static IP

I applied for a static IP some bit ago and was told that this wasn't available for the rCable service. I was kind of wondering if this was still the case and if so why?

Hi there,

This is still the case. I believe that it's simply not something we have access to as TPIA.

Well what I'm wonder is: it a technical limitation of the setup, or if I had my own IPs (as I do), could those be used?

No. I don't believe so. For cable it's purely dynamic for us right now.

It's not like it changes that often anyway. On rCable here and I have had the same IP for more than 6 months now.

Mine seems to change every 4-5 days. It's a bit of a pet peeve since it means I get to jimmy with my server's firewall for access perms.

Not the end of the world by any means. Just a 'quality of life' thing.

Cable wholesale can't support static IPs for technological reasons. There's not really anything practical that either TekSavvy or Rogers can do about it, short of using some sort of tunneling solution (which TekSavvy doesn't offer).
