10-port SFP switchI have been searching for a while and couldnt find a switch which has at least 10 SFP ports and a few ethernets.
The ones I have found are either Ciscos or Juniper switches which are very expensive.
Does anyone know a reliable SFP switch with 10xSFP ports ? We need only 802.3ad capability on these things. Nothing fancy. |

You should define "expensive" otherwise responses will be all over the board. I also equate reliable with enterprise class gear so you get what you pay for. The first two are pretty economical although the HP only has 100Mb SFP ports. I wouldn't generally push Netgear but for the price you could stock an extra. » www.cdw.com/shop/product ··· 802.aspx» www.cdw.com/shop/product ··· 0Catalog» www.cdw.com/shop/product ··· 950.aspx» www.cdw.com/shop/product ··· 0Catalog» www.cdw.com/shop/product ··· 035.aspx |

Cisco 3750-12S? It has 12x SFP cages.
EOL now for a while, so you should be able to pick them up cheap on ebay or through second hand equipment dealers.
Added bonus is they can act as a router, including IPv6, but limited table size (should be fine for IGP only though.)
Alternatively if you dont necessarily have a large stock of SFPs and dont mind stocking another type of optic, the 3550-12G should be much much cheaper. It uses GBIC instead of SFP, but they are all interoperable.
The added bonus for the 3550-12G is that it has 2x 10/100/1000 copper onboard, whereas the 3750-12S doesnt have any copper ports, so you'd need some copper SFPs.
The 3550 can also do IP routing, but no IPv6. |

Like Gerard, we've been deploying Planet switches. |

Ok let me narrow down this a bit. We have RAD-STM1 SFPs (7xpcs) and we need to aggregate them. These sfps tranfser 140mbit/s so 10/100 SFP cages are not an option.
I am not sure if Ciscos support them either.
What can you say about the reliability of Planet Switches and Netgears ? |

We've have only had ours (8) deployed for about a year now. I've not had any issue with them at this point.
Gerard I think would have more experience with them than I would.
I'm not sure on the compatibility with the sdh sfp's though. |

All of mine are deployed in non climate controlled outdoor cabinets. They survived summer heat and below zero temps this winter. I'm using the MGSW series which are rated for higher temps than the SGSW series. I haven't had any problems yet.
What are the SFP's connected to now? I don't know that a regular ethernet switch will work.. |

we use Zyxel MES3500-24F never had any problem with them . If that's not cheap enogh go for Tp-link TL-SG5412F (12sfp ports and 4 normal i think) |

They are currently on Juniper Ex2200s and a few Mikrotik CCRs. They work on these devices but not sure about Cisco though. Never used any Cisco before |

Are these those "Ethernet over STM1 in an SFP" SFP's?
They present as an Ethernet SFP, but the line side is SDH or SONET, and a built in web server to configure them? |

What uplink do you want/need? 1G or 10G? Or not really any uplink in this case? |

How happy have you been with their (edge-core) switches? Always been intrigued by them. Especially with the SFP+ uplinks. |
