[Virtual] ESXi host with lockdown mode enabled disconnects frequently

I'm connected to an ESXi box from New Orleans a few states away via VPN tunnel. The connection from NOLA to the data center is rock solid (very low latency, high bandwidth, no disconnects).

Connecting the ESXi box to vCenter works without a hitch. The moment I remove and add the host to vCenter and enable lockdown mode the host disconnects almost immediately after connecting to vCenter. If I manually reconnect the host it sits stable for a few seconds (up to about 20-30) the disconnects again.

Disabling lockdown mode via console and connecting to vCenter the host sits stable.

I've already increased the SSL timeout threshold from 60 seconds to 120 seconds on the ESXi server and configured the vCenter server timeout in the vCenter config file to a larger timeout threshold.

I increased the timeout slightly more and it seems to be holding steady with lockdown enabled. Maybe there was some overhead that I wasn't aware of or something.
