3801 -> NVG589 Self Installs Coming Soon?

Over the past few days AT&T has put up two new user guides.

"Replace 3801 Wi-Fi Gateway with NVG 589 for High Speed Internet & TV"
»www.att.com/media/att/20 ··· 0851.pdf
"Replace 3801 Wi-Fi Gateway with NVG 589 for High Speed Internet, Voice & TV"
»www.att.com/media/att/20 ··· 0850.pdf

I thought this was interesting since they never made a self install replacement guide for a 3801 -> NVG589. It has always been NVG589 -> NVG589.

Maybe this is hinting towards more use of the NVG589 and they'll be sending them out in the mail to 3801 users? Maybe it even means that single pair Power is in the works.

Didn't someone say that they wanted to mainly begin using the NVG589 now?

Just recently signed up with UVerse DSL and got the 3601. I wonder if AT&T will replace the 3601 with the NVG 589? So far the 3601 been good but it doesn't match the HD DVR and PS4 that I have that are in black. If so would they replace them for free and not charge $100?

Are you talking about the 3600 or 3801? There isn't a 3601 as far as I'm aware.

You can't get the NVG589 on internet only unless you have Power. Your chances of getting an NVG589 without Power are slim if you have the 3600 now.

Thats not quite true. If your Internet only requires Pair Bonding due to distance from the DSLAM, you can have the NVG589 for internet only.

I have done plenty of installs that way

Single Pair on an NVG589, yeah that is frowned upon -- not supposed to replace a "purchased" modem with a "rented" modem, for obvious reasons

I was referring to him specifically. Since he currently has a 3600, I assumed he wasn't far enough to qualify for pair bonding without Power.

There have been a few small cases where people purchased their NVG589, which was probably by error.

Dumb question time. My current 3801HGV has/uses a 10 character WIFI key & directions for the NVG589 states on step 3. "Enter the 12 character Wi-Fi Password (Wireless Network Key) in the Password field to connect to your network."?? Will a 10 key work as I would like to keep the same one as I have lots of devices that would have to be changed???

Also any idea when the new NVG589s will start to roll out for NC? TIA

Does NVG589 use IP address 192.168.1.254 also?

Yes

To your other post, you can just change the key I would believe to the one you have now. The NVG589s should already be available in NC.
